So here's my issue with that. Where are they going to live? And where are they going to get medical services?

Canada does have a shortage of working age people right now and obviously importing skilled labour from abroad is one solution to that. But - this is MASSIVE amounts of immigration. Which would be one thing if we had enough homes to house them or medical facilities to treat them or even schools to educate their kids.

But we don't. We are already facing a serious shortage of homes, rent prices are already sky high, and even after the so called 'crash' home ownership is still vastly out of reach for the greater majority of people.

We only build about 250 k homes a year and many of those involve ripping down existing homes to build higher density or because the old home is getting to the end of it's life. So it's not even a 250 k home NET increase. And we currently have a shortage. And we're going to bring in 500 k people? Which doesn't include our own local people who are coming to the age where they'd like to look at moving out and either renting or buying. And it doesn't include things like foreign students while they're studying (tho many might become citizens LATER they're not included in 'immigration' numbers while they're students). It also doesn't include temp foreign workers OR the fact that many new homes will be used for Air b&b type lodgings.

Where the hell are all these people going to live? They ain't gonna be settling down in the small prairie towns or small towns of northern bc or the like. They're mostly going to be in the already crammed major metros.

And our medical systems in MOST provinces are a disaster - and we can't find enough doctors and nurses etc to deal with what we've got. So ... where are we magically going to come up with enough medical professionals to deal with an extra 500 k people? Per YEAR? I"ve read that a doctor seeing patients full time (no emerg or hospital or clinic duties) can handle about 1500 patients max. That means we're going to need about 350 new doctors MINIMUM every single year - where's that coming from? And that doesn't include specialists and surgeons and so on - we would need over a thousand new doctors and specialists annually. And we don't even have enough now.

How did they pull it off 120 years ago?
By telling people "here's your land, go build whatever you want on it and don't bug us."

Now it's all building codes and permits and inspections and blah blah.

Not to mention there was still a little bit more land around the GTA and Vancouver etc back in those days :)

ANd we didn't have 'free' health care programs effing up our medical industries. So we had doctors.

But seriously - as a percent of population we've never brought in as much as they're looking at bringing in now. I just don't see how they can do it without creating a catastrophe.

What city or town was "here is land, wing it"?

There was more land? Where did it go?

Buy it back or order more. Problem solved.

They can't. European immigration lawyers and groups have used Canada as the prime example of how NOT to do immigration to a welfare state. The moment you start importing 1% or more of your total population every year the costs of immigration outweigh the benefits.
The bullshit excuse for these high numbers is Canada's aging population. But with family class immigration, I fail to see how importing a bunch of fucking old people will help with that in any way.

Even if they're all young i don't seen how it's possible to integrate them. Over TIME the right kind of immigration at the right levels can be a net benefit - but that doesn't happen day one. But day one they're going to need medical services, they're going to need a place to live, they'll need schools for their kids... i mean these are basic services we'd expect them to get, we're not talking about anything excessive here. And I don't see how we can provide it.

People who already live here and have roots will have an advantage in a competative market for such services. So what will happen is that a bunch of people will immigrate, and start to feel disenfranchised when they aren't paid quite as much as others (new people don't have the track record to get top pay right out of the gate, employers need to get them up to speed first). AND they can't get as good living arrangements and what they can get costs a fortune, AND they have trouble getting services for their kids and such, AND they don't have a family doctor and struggle to get basic medical services. And they can't vote, they feel like they've got no say.....

How long until that creates a problems? We've seen that in europe. This whole plan makes no sense given our severe lack of infrastructure.

Babies already have homes. They aren't buying.

Right? Right?
Their parents are - more people means you need more room. And babies grow up to want their own homes - in fact there's a whole bunch of former babies who are in that boat right now.

I'm not playing this game where you act willfully stupid and pretend you can't understand basic math or science. Nobody's actually that dumb. I'll just ignore you for the rest of the thread till you decide to NOT act as tho you're a moron and have intelligent conversations again.

Sounds like all you have left is insults. Which is funny becasue you'll demand a ban for anyone who disagrees with you. Well - this is why you get ignored so much. You have a good day little guy.
