Indeed, quite so. That is absolutely true.
I suppose that the Yukon is close to the Pole, so to speak.
The pole the strippers use in the bar?
There is nothing wrong with mining and exporting as long as there is a guarantee of safe end use of the product.
It'not not used here as pipe insulation for indoor use but still outdoor if mixed with an organic compund or polymer and waterproofed. The old stuff takes on water like crazy and loses it's insulating value. Dangerous to have happen on a hydrogen cracker at a refinery or something to that extent.
I agree. there are many places where asbestos is the best product available. It just must be applied in a safe manner. Fiberglass is dangerous in its liquid form but is perfectly safe once it hardens. Just have to use the appropriate PPE and training.
Where things start going wrong is with poorly thought out rules around handling both during application and removal. We do a couple of hundred grand a year in asbestos removal and spent thousands of dollars to buy the proper equipment and training and dispose of the product properly but fly by night contractors and joe homeowner remove asbestos laden drywall, roofing and flooring with no PPE and then dump it with the regular garbage. Yet nobody checks up on what they are dumping while we have to do mountains of paperwork. Makes bidding difficult sometimes because insurance companies don't care as long as it is the lowest price. IMO they should be held criminally responsible if they hire a contractor to do an asbestos removal job that does not follow the rules for PPE and disposal.
I have another explanation...the Harper government doesn't care about science. They care about the global ponzi scheme of constant economic growth. They lie about scientific findings, fire government scientists, destroy the usefulness of the long form census...it's clear that they don't care what reality actually is.
They also think the world is 6000 years old and made by god in six days.
