Order of Canada Revoked for Stephen Fonyo

After the slobbering, slavish and mindless adoration Terry Fox received for NOT completing the coast-to-coast run, one can - to at least a small degree - understand the frustration that Fonyo's must have felt when he was totally ignored after COMPLETING what he'd set out to do. TWICE.

Had he preceeded Terry Fox, and received the recognition he never did, perhaps he would not have resorted to drugs and booze.

At any rate, he EARNED the Order of Canada. Revoking it was a cheap, political act.

I cannot believe what I'm reading.
Terry Fox ran until he couldn't run anymore. He had a huge tumour in each lung and God knows where else the cancer had spread to or what pain he was going through. Obviously Fonyo's cancer had been stopped and he was healthy and he could do what he did. There is no way to compare the two of them. Only a moron would attempt to.
Terry Fox stopped and talked to people in quite a few different locations during his run and he obviously caught the imagination of the people of Canada.

Revoking Fonyo's Order of Canada was the only choice after his behavior was known. How could they leave that honour with him without insulting every other recipient of the Order of Canada?

That is true. Terry Fox became a real hero in the eyes of the people of Canada and deservedly so. Fox also caught the attention of people outside Canada. Terry Fox runs are now held all over the world and raise millions of dollars annually for cancer research.

Right on, I participate most years, even though I generally come in about last, usually about 1hour 17 minutes to do 8 km. I couldn't understand Y.J.s (normally sane) logic on that post, but he's an old codger up in my age category so maybe all his moments aren't lucid.............................:lol::lol::lol:

You're doing better than me. I have a bad knee. I had the cartilages removed twenty five years ago and now I'm paying for it. I wrecked the cartilages skiing. I can walk for miles but I can't run more than half a block.

Fonyo didn't get a medal. Fonyo got the honour of a membership in the Order of Canada. He got it partially because of what he did but more because they thought he was an honourable man. He wasn't all that honourable. Fonyo can only be an ignorant jerk.

If removing that Order improved someone else's lot in life, perhaps I could see it. Why does Conrad Black deserve to retain his? He stole a million times what Fonyo did and he didn't need the money. But then maybe because Black is still in maybe Fonyo is glad to be out.

Black was caught once. How many times was Fonyo caught being a criminal before they removed it? DOn't try to pretend they didn't leave him a chance to turn things around.

And who knows when it comes to improving his lot in life.... the Order sure didn't seem to be helping him at all.

Under review?????????? He's been an international disgrace for years and a predator on the most vulnerable in society (seniors whose only source of income in their waining years was taken away) What Fonyo did in comparison is nickel and dime stuff. You know what the other main difference is between Black & Fonyo? Black has money. Fonyo is the better man.
