lol Well done. :)
I don't suppose that was Dawkins, was it?

It is unfortunate that the message will only reach the converted.

We are socially conditioned from birth to view the world in a certain way, to believe in certain ways. Just about everything we think we know about our lives and reality are views that were given to us. It is very difficult to break free of that kind of indoctrination, to try to see the world from a different perspective.

For me it was the time I spent with our aboriginal peoples. Their traditional ways are very much alive. Their world view and culture are very different from ours and consequently, there are many ways that they experience their reality that most in the dominant society would not know how to relate.

I have heard people say that they practice something akin to magic but to them it is just part of their reality. They don't have a word for magic (as far as I know). My point is that cultures generate a collective form of consciousness that influences their collective view of reality. They literally see things differently than our culture does.

Unfortunately, through mass media and brain washing, we are creating a homogenized world view and losing many of the variety of cultural views that existed up until quite recently. We are becoming the Borg, the collective mind that all thinks the same way at the same time. Sad really.

My first opinion is that the world is becoming a one world nation where the technologies of confinement are becoming planet wide. This is to say the police (a term that not only defines cops but governmental, regulatory institutions and trade organizations) are plying their trademark controls on the entire planet. The nation state by its very nature, through its need for control and self preservation, is innately totalitarian and must continually increase its power. We really do live in police states i.e., nations. This is what is causing the homogenization you're speaking of IMO, because as the new regime grows it must extend its control (violence) and thereby subdue culture and replace it with its own. The primary tools are the military, WB, IMF, bribertization trade agreements and now most recently the new G20 governmental body. American culture is also a cornerstone of this spread and its powerful significance was mentioned in The Grand Chessboard by Brzezinski. I'm not sure if this is all occurring by design or coincidence. Certainly it seems nations grew into confinement technologies and created policing grids out of self preservation. It does seem this new tyranny is a better prepared and less naive than the smaller nation states that have spawned it.

No doubt about it, SF.

I heard a guy on the radio one time, saying in an evangelical like voice, that it was so wonderful that Canadians were so willing to give up some of their freedom for a little security. What was frightening was how excited he was about it and how true it was.

In today's world you have to be on your toes and expect curve balls and more dimensions are being added all the time. We old codgers grew up in a world that we could inprepret by what we saw and what we heard and could take for granted that most of it was true. Today the truth is buried amongst tons of different kinds and degrees of bullsh*t.

I don't think what we were told was any less bullcrap, it just today there is so much more of it to wade through.

Hey Bart! Where've you been hidden?

Neat find, SF.... It should be required educational material because there really aren't many black-and-whites in reality....

As I pointed out before, if the irrational were rational in the first place, there would be no superstitious beliefs.

Sorry. Although J agree with a few things you said, I think there will always be people that think unconventionally

Isn't that comment an oxymoron? .....Weren't handed less bullsh|t back then, it's just we're handed more bs now? Sorry, Cliffy, what you said was just funny.

I guess what Cliff was saying is we've ALWAYS been handed bullsh*t, it's just that the volume has increased and I tend to agree, the main difference being there are more conveyances available today to deliver the bullsh*t.
