Gas is really cheap right now. It makes no sense to convert to a more expensive fuel source (thanx Premier Wynne for that really expensive electricity and those useless wind turbines) even if the car is cheaper. Plus its not like you can go anywhere in an electric car. There are gas stations every 2 blocks, where exactly can you charge your car?

Even worse for somebody having to pay somebody to spin a wind turbine around to go to the grocery store.
The cost for the consumer is much higher to use any electric vehicle than a gas vehicle. The cost to the taxpayer is also greater for electric fuel sources. And if you count the manufacturing and disposal of the batteries for the electric vehicle, its not any greener either.
It produces less carbon emissions and I agree that the cost to most consumers is still too high.

It's a trade off, and not necessarily a good one. At least 20% of China's farmland is toxic due to heavy metals. Almost all of the toxic poisoning is due to the mining and refining of rare earth elements and heavy metals. Heavy metals that are used in the manufacturing of batteries. A big increase in electric cars means a big increase in mining which means a big increase in both ground and air pollution, including GHGs.
In Ontario, electric cars might make sense for in town driving due to the fact that something like 85% of Ontario's hydro generation is emissions-free. But that's because of our nuclear capacity and to a lesser extent our hydro-electric capacity as opposed to turbines or solar, or fossil fuels
Not every jurisdiction has nuclear power or the hydro-electric capacity already in place. And that's important too because building large new dams usually isn't very green.
A few years back my nephew bought an electric car.
freaky little thing. Silent. It has proximity sensors that
signal the car to make 'car' noises when another car
or a pedestrian is close, etc....'vroom' on a recording.
He shopped around for the best deal, with a new battery
guaranteed in a few years before he planned on trading
it off, as with a used battery these things have little to no
really trade in or resale value.
He had an electrician install a charging station for it inside
their own garage at home as there just isn't anyplace else
to charge this thing. Doing their part to save the planet,ect...
All was well, and then winter came. They live mid-block on
their street, and much of the time the electric car couldn't
climb up from the street to the alley, to make it to the garage
to get recharged. Yeah......oh well.
They have a nice little 4x4 SUV now. Not sure if they still have
the electric car or not, as I haven't seen it in quite a while. It
is what it is.

By the way Ski....I have friend who has one of them... It's cheap to ride around town but for long trips he gets the same gas mileage I do...plus in the winter time he has to run the engine for heat...
And we will have to subsidize all the flossy's of Ontario with our tax dollar
And the greennies wonder why we despise them.......Baaah!
A perfect example of why these technologies need to be subsidized.
