Clipper at an eighth of an inch, about every three months does the trick for me. No frills, no gimmicks, and the clipper has already paid for itself. :)

Why do they have to be licenced? If they don't know what they are doing they'll be out of work soon enuf.

I just have a problem with the govt creating make work projects for fellow Liberal lackeys, at the expense of trades people.

Most trades already require certification, some annually or biannually.

If you're a poor barber, people will simply stop going to your shop.

This Ontario Collage of Trades is nothing but a BS program to put money in the pockets of Liberal jackasses, forced on the province by Liberal jackasses.

BTW, Ontario already has a legislated governing body for registration and certification of Barbers... The Ontario Barber Assoc.

There's bound to be a way around this... Perhaps they keep the barber pole outside and advertise (in very small print) that they are 'social consultants' (these dudes are great talkers).

$25 for a 1/2 hour 'consulting' session and they throw the hair cut in for free.

I'm sure women will be lined up at Old Ed's Barbershop to get their perms and streaks.

While they are at it can we have female 'hairstylists' trained on how to properly do what should be a 3 minute clipper job?

My dad was a barber for over 50 years. He cut my hair until I got to be a teen. Then he said that since I was older, I should go to a hair sytlist. He didn't even cut my mom's hair for pete's sake. My husband and son still get haircuts from him, even tho' he's retired.

I once went to a barber when I had long hair, mainly because when I went to a hair dresser to get a "trim" I usually got butchered instead. Think is was resentment because I did have nice hair lol. He was really nervous and didn't want to do it but I just told him to trim it across the bottom to get rid of the split ends - he did a marvy job! (I think he was relieved after he finished). But you see, my thinking was that men usually liked long hair and would only cut what was absolutely necessary. And, I was right.

I don't know if barbers now-a-days would do the same thing now.

I can understand certain trades but many down here need licenses, electricians, plumbers, home improvement, you get caught without a license and you're butt f ucked.

Dad had to go to barber school and that was 50 years ago!!

Oh great, there's another license. Liquor license.

Lol.
As long as they would give the same cut and a beer to a female client there should be no problem. Think of it as a specialty cut.

I'll cut your hair and get ya rip-snortin' hammered to boot... I'll even do it for friend-prices

Mind you, you'll probably be needing a bunch of liquor to settle your mind over the final result.

*lmao*

listen if you knew how much money I just gave my stylist yesterday you would go for it...he put the wrong colour on it (partially my fault) and I don't know about the cut yet, it takes a few days to settle down from the shock of the cut. But have to say, he is not getting it lately because the cut has been dicey more than once lately (no pun intended on dicey) ...and before I leave, he likes to make my hair big and puffy like I am going to an Italian wedding.

He is cutting too many rich old, lady heads that have 15 hairs on it...he knows how to make them think their hair is big...jazuz it is frightening. If he knew that the 20 minute blow dry gets flattened two minutes after I'm in the door he would not be happy.

Welcome to Wynnetario.

Barbers in Ontario are facing the prospect of being forced back to school to learn how to do things like highlights and perms, some of them after decades of experience cutting men's hair.

New provincial legislation forces about 300,000 tradespeople to be certified in their trade, from electricians to home contractors.
In 1998, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities grouped all trades related to hairstyling — including barbers — under the trade name of hairstylist.

But the change to ministry documents and certificates of qualification didn't happen until earlier this year, and many barbers have operated without licences because they were rarely if ever enforced.

Now, operating without a licence costs employees a $195 fine and employers a $295 fine for first offences.

To get a license, barbers have to learn the new combined curriculum for hairstylists, including perms, colouring and more.

Excellent, wasting both time and money on something that means very little in the lives of the average Ontarian. Excepting of course those who go out of pocket for a higher amount. Do I give a damn if the neighbourhood barber has been artfully trained in the skill of dying hair? No I don't because I'm not going to him to get my hair dyed.

What kind of govt forces private business to operate according to pure ideological bullshit? To answer your question, if barbers actually wanted to do that, a bunch of leftards wouldn't have had to force them to. And how much do you want to bet that muslim barbers got the usual free-pass that muslims seem to get? Don't bother betting, you WILL lose because that's exactly what happened. A women tested the waters in Toronto and lo'and behold, the leftards decided that his religious excuse for refusing her service was good enough reason.
