BRANTFORD, Ont. -- An area teacher who was recently reprimanded by the Ontario College of Teachers for swearing and vulgarity is facing two new sets of charges before her governing board.
Allegations of classroom behaviour by Jennifer Elizabeth Green-Johnson include her telling a student: "Why don't you lick me where I fart?" The teacher was suspended without pay by the Grand Erie District School Board.
Green-Johnson, who is listed as an English teacher on Dunnville Secondary School's website, was found guilty of professional misconduct at a January hearing by the college and got a one-month suspension. Her name and case were publicized in the college's September magazine that is distributed to teachers.
At the end of August, Green-Johnson got notice of two additional sets of charges against her.
The first dates back to March 2015 when she is alleged to have slapped or hit a male student on the head, told him to "grow some balls" and called him an idiot. That incident was dealt with by the school board, which suspended Green-Johnson for one day without pay, which she served in May 2015.
The second set of charges relates to behaviour during the 2015-16 school year. It includes swearing at students, calling a student a "bloody pedophile" and using other vulgarities in class. She also said that a student "looked like a frumpy old lady today."
The board gave her a six-day suspension without pay in February.
Grand Erie Supt. Scott Sincerbox, who oversees human resources, said he cannot discuss Green-Johnson's case, citing "confidential personnel information."
It's unusual for the college's disciplinary panel to see a teacher more than once, said college spokesperson Gabrielle Barkany.
"We have had cases where a teacher faces a college disciplinary panel a second time but it is not frequent," Barkany said in an email.
These two new notices of hearing represent Green-Johnson's third and fourth disciplinary actions by the college. She has been called to a meeting Sept. 23 to set a date for the hearing.
At Green-Johnson's last disciplinary action, she was found guilty of professional misconduct after calling students stupid, idiots, gay and "a bitch." She swore in her classroom, made inappropriate comments and, at one point, accidentally hit a student in the groin.
Green-Johnson also was brought before the teacher's college in 2007 but the allegations at that point were not substantiated.
She has been repeatedly disciplined by the Grand Erie board, with disciplinary letters, suspensions with pay and suspensions without pay.
Last week, Sincerbox said the board has a "progressive discipline process" for teachers that can run from a conversation and verbal warnings to letters to suspensions and steps that can lead to termination.
