Google saw a spike in searches for how to break a limb painlessly in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s mass mobilization order, according to media reports.
In what would be Russia’s first mobilization since the Second World War, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said in a televised interview that 300,000 reservists with relevant combat and service experience initially would be mobilized. The reservists’ main task, according to Shoigu, will be to reinforce the front line in Ukraine, which is currently over 1,000 kiometres long.

“Naturally what is behind this line needs to be reinforced, the territory needs to be controlled,” Shoigu told state television. Only those with relevant combat and service experience will be mobilized, he noted.
Shortly after the order, social networks in Russian surged with advice on how to avoid the mobilization or leave the country, AP reported.
Reports of panic spreading among Russians have also flooded social networks. Anti-war groups said the limited airplane tickets out of Russia reached enormous prices due to high demand — and swiftly became unavailable.
Some postings alleged people had already been turned back from Russia’s land border with Georgia and that the website of the state Russian railway company collapsed because too many people were checking for ways out of the country. As of noon on Wednesday, Russian railway website page rzd.ru was still inaccessible, according to isitdownrightnow.com.
(Russia also said the contracts of professional soldiers are expected to be extended indefinitely.)

Well, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister has suggested those be considered for consumption due to meat shortages caused by Ukraine war sanctions.
Speaking at the Innofood exhibition in Sochi, Denis Manturov said he would “continue to experiment” with meat alternatives, according to the New York Post.
The Russia official said he tried a vegetable protein by Efko and found it “very difficult to distinguish from natural meat. To be honest, I couldn’t tell the difference.”
Better still, Manturov was also impressed by a meat alternative made from black soldier fly larvae.
“It was a real surprise when a protein sourced from black soldier fly larvae is used, but here we are on the cutting edge of modern [practices],” he said. “We need to overcome that mental block and then even a black soldier fly larva will be to your taste. You need to make an effort.”
Russia continues to place blame on the West for the global food crisis although the U.S. has maintained the sanctions don’t apply to food or agriculture.
Instead, the U.S. Secretary of State said in May that Russia was “using food as a weapon” by blocking Ukrainian ports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s so-called Iron Doll has spoken — just hours after the Queen was laid to rest — and it’s not pretty.
Olga Skabeyeva, one of the Kremlin’s most high-profile propagandists, allegedly said Putin should have launched nuclear weapons at the Queen’s funeral while all the world leaders were in one place, according to the Daily Mail online.
“We should have done it today, all the best people are [in Britain] for the funeral,” Skabeyeva, 37, told guests on Monday night, before adding with a grin, “God forgive me.”
At the time, she was responding to Andrey Gurulev, a retired general and current MP, who said it didn’t make sense for Russia to strike Ukraine.
“We still have to live over there in Ukraine,” he said. “We have plenty of targets. Ramstein [airbase in Germany] is a good fat one, but it could wait. Why would we bomb Ukraine or Germany when there is Britain — the root of evil?”
Gurulev said the U.K. could be “bled white” and turned into a “Martian wasteland” with very few Russian nuclear strikes.
“When Britain is turned into a Martian wasteland, what will NATO’s Article 5 [defending collective security] be about?”’ he said. “Defending the Martian wasteland? There will be nothing left there. An unshakable island — it will be shakable.”
