I was pulling for the Americans against Finland.. which is somewhat rare with me. It's just really tough coming off an emotional defeat to an arch rival, in a close game, fighting for bronze and up against probably the best the goal tender in the tournament in Tuukka Rask, who gave Canada fits as well. American culture doesn't put much stock in 2nd or 3rd place.. but to Finland there'll be toasts and celebrations in every home and tavern. Congrats.

I say probably because the other contender is Henrik Lundquist, who we will face tomorrow. It always makes me nervous going into a Gold Medal game as a clear favourite.. knowing there are all kinds of nuances, especially with the big ice surface and a sharp goalie that are going to neutralize Canada's offensive and technical edge. I'll be on pins and needles.

Canada's top 4 Man Bobsled crashed on their 2nd run... very scary but everyone came out scraped up but otherwise uninjured. Of course it means we're out of medal contention (although we have 2 other sleds back a bit). We were at a best a dark horse, but Canada has a long history of out doing expectations in this sport and i had high hopes. It's one of the few sports in the Winter Olympics that i actually follow outside the Games; 4 Man Bob, Alpine Skiing, Hockey.. that's about it.. so it's sad news.

Sweden will play the same kind of game as Finland. That is, put everyone to sleep then pick up a goal or two when no one is looking. Could be dangerous.

You've got that right Kreskin and with Lundqvist in goal I am not expecting many pucks to get through.........unless Henrik has a really really bad night.

Watching the Men's slalom right now............I do believe whoever laid out this course had a wee bit too much vodka before doing so. Big names are going down left and right.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was meeting on Saturday night to decide whether three French skiers who swept the podium in the men's ski cross finals at the Winter Olympics wore illegal suits.

Jean Frederic Chapuis, Arnaud Bovolenta and Jonathan Midol took the medals in Thursday's final but Canadian and Slovenian officials protested to the International Ski Federation (FIS), claiming they changed their suits to gain an illegal aerodynamic effect.

FIS said that it could not consider the complaint because it had not been made in time so the protest was escalated to CAS, sporting law's highest court.

"The Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA), the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Slovenian Olympic Committee (SOC) ask for the disqualification of all of the French competitors from the 20 February 2014 ski cross Big Final competition and for the correction of the final rankings," CAS said in a statement.

"They allege that, just before the Big Final, French support staff changed the shaping of the lower leg suits of the riders creating an aerodynamic effect that the appellants submit is contrary to the International Freestyle Skiing Competition Rules."

Chapuis led the race from start to finish. Brady Leman, of Calgary, was chasing second or third for most of the race but crashed towards the end, finishing fourth.

A panel of CAS's ad hoc division will hear the case later on Saturday and will publish its results before 5 a.m. ET on Sunday, the final day of the Games.

The clean sweep helped France to their current tally of 15 medals, their highest in a Winter Olympics.

Sochi 2014 - CBC Sports - French ski cross suits too fast, Canada says

The reason I put this here is because if the Canucks and the Slovenians prevail - Canada will get a Gold Medal. I wonder how many Olympians have crashed only to end up on the podium and in first place. May be another first........have to wait and see.

Oh Sal I hope you got to watch the Figure Skating Gala tonight. Tessa and Scott were magical. What a wonderful performance. It brought tears to my eyes thinking this may be the last time we see them. Such grace.

I was going to boycott it but I thought it would be disloyal to our Olympic skaters. Glad I had second thoughts.

Once you fail at the Commonwealth games, what will be next?....

We won't fail at the Commonwealth Games.

There have been 19 Commonwealth Games and England (the Commonwealth Games is the only major multi-sport event in which English athletes and teams compete as England; generally England participates as part of the United Kingdom, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) have NEVER finished below third place in the medals table.

This is England's final position in each of the Commonwealth Games going back to the first in Hamilton in 1930: 1,1,2,2,1,1,2,1,2,2,2,2,1,2,3,2,2,2,3.

Only TWICE - in 1978 (on their own turf) and 1994 - have Canada finished above England in the medals table. Canada has only topped the Commonwealth Games medals table once - in 1978 on home turf.

In the all-time Commonwealth Games medals table, England ranks second behind Australia with 612 golds, 614 silvers and 612 bronzes, a total of 1838 medals.

Canada has a total of 436 golds, 459 silvers and 493 bronzes, a total of 1388 medals.

History shows that Australia will top the 2014 medals table with England finishing second. But with the England team competing in the UK - in Glasgow - I would tip them to top the medals table this year, with Australia second.

invented by Canadians I might remind you

No, it wasn't. Being asked by somebody else to organise the first holding of the Commonwealth Games doesn't mean you invented it.

It could be very tight but the boys are pretty steady. Either way it works out, they done good. Next goal will be pretty important.
