Now fade back to the ones that didn't leave with a hint that the 'birth defects attributed to incest' were actually caused by environmental damage instead.

Actually Jed wouldn't have seen a nickel, in reality. The oil company would have screwed him out of his mineral rights somehow and Jed and Granny would have been evicted to live out their lives on meagre social security in a tenement, somewhere ... no seement pond, no brewing rheumatism medicine out back, no billyard room ...

You have no idea of the concept of property rights.

You have no idea how vile the energy giants are. That is what happened to the Appalatian farmers in the coal fields. The were evicted from farms that had been settled by their families for two, three hundred years earlier with little or no compensation. When they fought back, they were shot down in their tent cities by the mining company's hired guns.

There was no Jed or Granny. People like that had little or no power in face of major megas-bucks and their bought and paid for politicians.

There were no Jeds nor Grannys. It never happened. Poor people like that got zip.

It was still a fact that when you owned the title to the land you owned the mineral rights as well. The phase 11 of the Beverly Hillbillies would be when the neighbors lost their jobs and began to have to fend for themselves once the utilities are cut off..

Not necessarily. Mineral rights vs. surface rights are a provincial matter, and while there are some differences from province to province surface rights and mineral rights are two separate titles. Mineral rights generally start off as crown property, and unless the owner of the surface rights specifically gains some title to the mineral rights they can be sold or leased to another party. Best to check your title carefully, if you own any mineral rights it will say so, and well as specify exactly what minerals you have rights to as different minerals can be under different titles.

Why, I remember way back when the textile mills in the UK did the very same thing to generations of families. Hell, my good buddy, Oliver Twist (Ollie to his buds) was treated so cruelly.

I wish that more focus was placed on those dastardly textile giants in Britain today
