WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama's proposal to reduce long-term deficits with $1.5 trillion in new taxes is less an opening bid in a negotiation than it is an opening salvo in a struggle to draw sharp contrasts with congressional Republicans.
Obama's proposal is aimed predominantly at the wealthy and comes just days after House Speaker John Boehner ruled out tax increases to lower deficits. It also comes amid a clamor in his own Democratic Party for Obama to take a tougher stance against Republicans. And while the plan stands little chance of passing Congress, its populist pitch is one that the White House believes the public can support.

But, IF he gets it through, and the uber rich have to pay more, he might be advised not to partake in a motorcade through Dallas in an open car.

The uber rich have to pay more? What an inept statement.

I love how socialists and those who feel entitlement think the Uber Rich should have to pay for it.

This Uber Rich mantra is a broken record from the Uber Entitled.

Even if the Uber rich cow was milked once again that would barely scratch the surface of the train wreck economy in the US.


Americans need jobs, not welfare.

Is it not split - 1.5 in cuts to Medicaid, other programs for the poor and 1.5 in taxes. Next - It is election time -

Medicaid was the first stupid thing this President put through at the worst possible time. During a bloody recession. Going after corporations is going to do little to stop them from jumping into a much cheaper venue like.. I don't know. India, China, Mexico.

He is screwed.

The Republicans can run a stalk of salary against this guy and they'll have a good chance winning.

Well I have looked over the Repubs in the so called running, and you are correct - looks like they will be running a vegetable as their man/woman

Canada has the AMT (alternative minimum tax) for high income earners. It's easy for major high net worth people pay nothing in tax if there isn't a mechanism to trigger at least some tax.

It's about time they did something like this in the US. The corporate welfare and greed is out of hand.

Actually I've been looking them over and I kind of think I see some resemblances to our provincial lineup here.

So, if they are running the veggies there and running them here, then what I've always feared may have actually transpired.

There friggin cloning them now!
