Does the reality hurt that bad?

KXL was the only thing that was really stopping (read: massive delays) in the 2 other pipelines.

Now that the WH is sitting on the fence on KXL - the other 2 are fast-tracked.

Kudos to the ecotards that were fighting the good fight... They can now bask in the results that even more bitumen will be mined out of AB and Sask.

Ever thought of relocating to one of the real 'Stans'?

I'll kick in for a 1-way ticket fer yas

In large part, it is both directly and indirectly

We aren't mining oil....yet but we have convential heavy out the yinyang.

How does buying US currency to distribute through Canadian Banks in the US help reduce or debt or boost our currency in any way shape or form?

There will be increasing pressure for Alberta to reduce emissions. Depending on who wins the next election we might see more of the following type of policy:

In 2007, Alberta became the first jurisdiction in North America to legislate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions for large industrial facilities by passing the Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (SGER). SGER requires all facilities in Alberta emitting over 100,000 tonnes of CO2e per year to reduce their emissions intensity by 12% below their 2003-2005 baseline emissions intensity.

Alberta Energy: Facts and Statistics

The right may be butthurt now, but I'm sure they will take this over a nationwide carbon tax.

That's in addition to the massive extension of the Athabasca oil sands that reach far into Sask

We can make obummer's decision for him by building our East-West lines and hit the world markets. At world prices. All it will cost him is a few thousand jobs in the US.

Far better than buying into the carbon tax scam. Eventually they will figure out a way to profit off the CO2 that is being sequestered.

12% of 100,000t is one quarter of the tonnage of CO2 I sequestered into barley this year alone.

This is why the fury over carbon reductions is a bit misplaced.

It's the right environmental and economical move to make. The short term profit from pumping this stuff out as quickly as possible will not be worth the payback in the long term.

Meaning that the vast forest that surounds the oilsands eats up all the carbon produced and then some. Or could if there was more second growth that uses carbon and produces O2.

Hectare for hectare grass (which is what grains are) blow trees out of the water for CO2 consumption.

It makes the most sense to clear more forest for crop land.

Of course it does. It,s how the Neanderthals beat CO2 during the last interglacial period and thrived clear through until today.

All Obama has accomplished is deleting the opportunity for Gulf Coast refiners to profit from AB's oil on the export market. Quite honestly, KXL is not in Alberta's best interests, he's very much doing the oilsands a huge favour.

I thought you said once that you worked in finance in the industry, if I'm wrong just ignore the following questions unless of course you know the answer:smile:. I'm curious how the royalty structure works. When a company gets oil out of the ground, how does Alberta collect their royalties? Is it a flat fee for developing the resource, or is it some % of the going rate of the commodity price, or even some percentage of the project value? Secondly, does it really matter to Alberta if the oil is sold as an unrefined product to someone who will refine it, like the Chinese, versus selling it to someone else who will refine it, and then sell it like American refineries? I hear the talk all the time about Brent and West Texas Intermediate, but isn't most Alberta oil heavier and contain more sulphur? Would there really be a big difference in price, and how would that impact Alberta's revenues?
