boy, man, teen, adult, voting age, driving age...meh, these terms get so muddled in our uncertain times...anywho, this guy was a boy so here we go:

Boy Who Pled Guilty In Nova Scotia ‘Child Pornography’ Case Will Likely Not Get Jail Time

The father of a 15-year-old girl, who committed suicide last year, said yesterday he was told by the Crown that the 20-year-old who photographed & distributed pictures of his daughter having sex while she was vomiting, will likely not get jail time.

“I think getting probation or a suspended sentence for a crime like that, it’s insulting, to put it mildly,” he said in an interview.

“It’s almost like there’s no consequences for it. I mean, it has devastating effects on people.”

The Crown has dropped a second charge against the accused of distributing child pornography. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act as he was 17 when the offense occurred.
Halifax lawyer and cyberbullying expert, Wayne MacKay says the accused will not likely get a prison sentence because of his age and because he is a first time offender.

“The likely penalties are not going to be large and it may well be a suspended sentence,” said MacKay.
“The sentence is likely to be a fairly modest one.”

Vigilante justice? No thanks. I'd rather put the effort into the current criminal justice system than to rely on every Tom, D*ick and Harry's interpretation of what that means.

(No disrespect meant to Tom, D*ick, or Harry. Well, maybe to D*ick.)

Jail is not appropriate for all crimes, it's both too expensive and too time consuming. For this little pr!ck a public flogging every week for a couple of months will make the little bastard think twice before reoffending. Easy and cheap to administer!

I get the eye for an eye part, I just think that's a slippery slope to go down.

And those who do it can always be charged as he has been. Given they will most likely be adults they will probably face harsher consequences than he did.

And that serves no justice in the end.

Justice, like "punishment" (consequences), should not be dealt out of anger. It benefits no one.

A lot of people in Halifax know who it is. Besides just the locals, Anonymous hacktivists at the time threatened to release the names of all the men involved unless the RCMP acted. The RCMP did, but three months later Anonymous released the names anyways when they were frustrated by the speed the case was moving. Anyone interested can probably find out who they are with minimal time searching through the web.
