There's money to be made for sure, but "someone"...........govt.........private..........needs to ramp up some housing for the workies.

just sayin.

Petros: If you plunked a bunch of mobile homes or prefabs on the farm, could ya make a buck at it, given the expense of the infrastructure required, septic, wells, etc.?

No one's ever going to get druggies and professional welfare bums to work. The country's gotta address that or live with it. Not just use it as an excuse to "clear the OW" or whatever.

Screw it. I did my time. Just cause everything is going up in price, why should I worry:roll:? Most un socialistic of me, ain't it.

The welfare bums learn well the lessons of their corporate counterparts.

I forgot about Indians here, thanks. There are parts of the country where there are jobs sure, but there are quite few people looking for work in cities. I can't believe 250,000 people entering the country each year have minimal impact on the job market.

EI encourages some people in rural areas to take plenty of time off. Because I haven't been on UI/EI for 20 years, I found out if you quit a job, just because you feel like it, you get no EI. If you one of the 40 reasons, then you can get it. I don't need EI now.

In the old days there was a penalty, and you got UI. In Rural areas (which means, but not exclusively aboriginals, and "Atlantic" Canada, which means whites, but not exclusively, they work in jobs that end after a time, and presto, they get EI year after year. This is wrong and unfair. This keeps the unemployment rate up. EI has about six different levels from tough in urban areas, to easier in rural areas.

This may help kill supplly management in Canada. But maybe not as the federal party support bureaucracies rather than Canadians most of the time. Some of these dairy farmers are millionaires and likely fund political parties. That why people in Vancouver dirve south to the USA to buy food.

This thread should be linked with the supply management thread.

This is one issue that we don't see in Gopherland as there are many breadlines and other public services such as church groups here. Sad that they are needed in this day and age. Even sadder when people steal if help is readily available.

There was a time, when people would work at whatever job they could get,and do that job to the best of their ability, now there are too many people that would rather go on the dole than do something other than their "chosen field"

It only looks silver but it's really a disposable plastic spoon.

I don't know about you but my parents gave me work if I wanted to buy something. I have lots of memories and scars to prove it but the things I wanted are long gone.

That's the fricken problem today, dish washers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, rototillers, electric stoves........................there's no real chores left. Making their bed might be the hardest thing a kid has to do today. How many kids today have to keep the wood box full, or dump sawdust in the hopper, or shovelling coal into the stoker (one of the filthiest chores I ever did) you don't want that sh*t in your basement.

Missing our federal budget targets is not going to make things any easier. Then again, this is why we will need more jails.

Dumpy: How do you figure this is related to immigration? Look at the job boards. There are probably over a thousand vacancies to be filled in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan. There is over 100 right now on the island just on one job board.
The real problem is that too many native born Canadians are too dam lazy to work. We go through lots of labourers because the young ones don't want to work and have zero work ethic and we pay them fairly well for having no experience. Anyone with any kind of construction experience at all will be making $16-18/hr., more if the job requires wearing face masks. Only one catch. Crackheads and drunks need not apply.

As of this AM. 380 vacancies just on the government job board on VI.

Let's see, about half the immigrants that come to Canada 250000/2= 1250000, are basically useless in the job market. Divide that by the five large cities, Van, Cal, Edm, Tor, Mon, and immig may not have a huge impact on the job market I suppose. But if they can't get jobs, they're not living that well. Then if they cannot succeed they may turn to religion and other silliness and conspire like the Toronto 18.

Those "lazy" Canadians have good EI, they can leave seasonal jobs and layabout when its done. Could be "rural" or "Atlantic" Cdns.

JLM: Some people are dishonest. The store I saw on CBC was at Hastings and Nanaimo, in Vancouver East, middle class but not classiic suburbia, and many fellow travelers of the Occupy camp as it is close to Commercial Drive-anarchist central. They've always had thieves, now they seem to have more than usual. Maybe the stores, with Harper in power and his crime agenda, are taking the law into their own hands more so they're cathcing more hoodlums so they can fill up those shiny new prisons.
