Both Del Monte and Nestle Purina announced this week that they are voluntarily pulling popular chicken jerky dog treats made in China off the market after the New York State Department of Agriculture found possible contamination by an antibiotic that is illegal in the U.S.

Angry U.S. pet owners have alleged that chicken jerky treats made in China have caused kidney failure, illness and death in hundreds of dogs, and the FDA has issued three different warnings to pet owners in the past five years about possible risks associated with the treats.

when are we going to get it?
That azzhole fascist Globalists are pushing for international rule to standardize everything and will go as far as scaring pet ownwers into capitulation?

I got that years and years ago already.

Next thing ya know India will start making soggy pickles distributed by Bick's.

Frankly, given how often some kids eat pet food, how often some frat boys do, how much money families spend on their 'fur babies', and how the economy relies on consumer confidence, our governments, as crazy as it sounds, should be holding pet food to near the same standards of safety as our food. To know that for YEARS that animals were dying from a product, and not recall it, is insanity

The best way to avoid foreign food products is to learning to cook, bake, acquire your sustenance from gardening, hunting, fishing and when possible, small animal husbandry.

You can grow your cake and eat it too but alas there isn't an App for taking control of your own lifestyle and well being.

Thank you China for all the good things you send our way.

Including, of course, your unwavering support for the North Koreans during the conflict, and supporting the North Vietnamese during that war.

All our dead Canadian and American troops thank you. And their families. It was all a big misunderstanding.

Stephen Harper thanks you, and wants you to have oil and coal. And probably whatever else you want.

Our old dog who almost died from eating a "made in China" dog food. (t'was cheaper doncha know). thanks you..........Our best friend and we damn near killed her to save a few bucks. Thanks to the vet who was not Chinese and was trained in Canada, she pulled through to live a few years longer.

Our whole system is ****ing insane to have anything to do with you.

Thanks just the same.

Are they the same as limp pickles because I have heard there are pills for that. ;-)

Got a story about that; picked up a new kitty from the shelter this summer and took her to my vet for a checkup like I always do with new ones. When you get them you sign off on the type of food they will be getting for x number of weeks. So I ask my vet and he said yes, not bad. What is the best I ask. So he starts going through the food and why and what he recommends. So the one he recommends use a certain amount of cornmeal like most do and he explains what is misleading about excluding it in their diet etc.

Turns out the process goes like this; truck pulls up with the corn they have purchased, they send someone in to take random samples of the corn. It must be at an A level or a B otherwise it is rejected. Once rejected he claims it is sent on to a large brandname chip place.

Yup my cats corn meal is higher end than mine. That's the west for ya.

In the end Canada's domination of China is the same as it was 100 years ago and as long as there is a Canada for hundreds of years to come.

It's not our oil, it's not coal it's not NG, that we don't need to import from anyone.

It's our Agricultural land and our technological efficiency of producing tremendous amounts of food.

Grain wise, in a bad year we can easily meet our needs for catle feed and still buy everyone in the world a beer with barley alone.

Cheers!

If i don't know where it was made I refuse to buy it. Yes I will pay more for Canadian products.
As for the pet food thing we know this has been a problem, we know about paint for our child's
toys and a host of other problems. The latest is a possible hazard to our military forces.

Apparently those new Hercules aircraft may have knock off electronic chips and parts from China
according to CBC News last night. I thought military products had to be verified. Used to be that
way but good ole deregulation allows for anything eh?

I think it is time we started to demand from our government the following, All products must be
labelled with country of origin. All products must list where ingredients came from in the over all
manufacture of product. All modifications such as genetic modification should be labelled.
It is not because we want to punish companies but manufacturers and handlers are not as trust
worthy as they used to be. One other thing, organics and this must be spelled out.

All organic products should and must contain, Certified Organic

In addition certified organic product should have to be inspected and randomly tested to ensure it
is organic. That means product not just the paperwork. This must be a scientific process not an
honor based system anymore.

where do you get your wheat milled? the notion of growing all your own food is flawed. We are not set up as a society for that anymore.

FYI- I used to haul pet food from Purina in Innisfail. They actually would turn away drivers if their trailer wasn't up to "food-grade" standards even though it was pet food and kitty litter. We used to get a pile of papers with about 30 standards they had met before shipping.
