Absolutely correctomento!

I'm not sure exactly what my opinion is on the oil sands. My general opinion is that we need to continue producing oil while we work on improving alternatives. But whatever my opinion on the specific ins and outs of the oil sands ends up being, it ain't gonna be influenced by a famous has-been.

Than most Canadians? Really? Limiting his oil usage, or limiting his carbon footprint?
I'm not attacking the messenger, but laughing at his hypocrisy is all. OK, maybe laughing
at his hypocrisy might be attacking him, but it's sooooooo blatant that it's so hard not to
laugh at the guy.

The thing you don't get is that there are a lot of people who are concerned about climate change and CO2 emissions. You can tilt at Neil Young all day, but removing him from the picture is not going to amke the issue go away.

Still, for the contemporary misanthropic right-wing in general: If all you got is a hammer, all your problems look like nails.

It is in the best interests of everyone that people like Young, Gore, Suzuki, et al have the spotlight squarely on them whenever they rattle their sabres. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds and each time that they are caught in their own trap, the public at large becomes more accustomed to the reality that society can't live without oil (and oilsands as being among the largest reserves in the world).

Global Warming is way dead, and the AGW anchor is dragging Climate Change down right along with it. Personally, I welcome each event where these celebs embarrass themselves in the public eye and pound another nail in their eco-coffin

Young (et al) have done more to cripple their movement than they have to help.. The $500k that was raised won't cover the legal costs for a month, so all he accomplished was to allow the Chips to die by inches.... That and kick-start his record sales.

Global warming is way dead.

Those no brainer pipelines have already been agreed upon and the most powerful nation in the world (for the time being) is already on board.

You heard it here first folks.

The problem with all this is I love Neil Young.....enough that I bought and read his book, and I am not usually a consumer of celebrity biography.

I just wish he would make music, and stop making a damned fool of himself.

I have no doubt is is completely sincere.....he just does not live in the real world.

FIVE diesel buses.....left running throughout the entire concert.

(shakes head)

Colpy, Neil has said himself that he doesn't want us to get rid of oil.

Why would you assume that?

I assumed nothing....he compared the oil sands to Hiroshima........his thing is electric cars and bio fuel (now THERE is a stupid idea)

He wants the treaties honoured....he should ****ing READ them....they are honoured.

He is a flake. His book makes that quite clear. Musically, he has done nothing significant in thirty years........but before that he was simply wonderful. Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, "After the Gold Rush", "Harvest"...........wonderful stuff.

I just wish he would STFU so I could enjoy his music without thinking I am supporting idiocy......

You may think that global warming is way dead, but that is not the general consensus. Surveys of Canadians indicate they are concerned with global warming. You can attack the public figures that sepak out, but the underlining issues are not going to go away.

This is similar to what happened with clearcuts in BC in the 80s. Those supporting industry went after the public figures involved, or tried to marginalize those opposed as not part of mainstream society. But in teh end they had to change the way they did business to be more sustainable.

It's all too familiar. We already lived through a Soviet threat and Muzzie hate brainwashing what makes global warming any less a boogieman?.

To your point about the treaties, I have not seen any consensus in mainstream reports stating that he is wrong.

About his depiction of the set of events, there is nothing wrong with his opinion. If he feels that rapid expansion of the oil sands will eventually bring catastrophe to that reserve, then he is entitled to that opinion. We already know that an abundance of C02 can help bring significant changes in the environment, so it's really not that far fetched at all.

Yes he's used some very flavourful imagery here but you have not provided any evidence to suggest otherwise.

Prominent Canadians support Neil Young's anti-oilsands campaign

Neil Young's tour raised more than $500,000

More than 20 notable Canadians have penned a letter to support musician Neil Young following his concert tour to raise money for a First Nation fighting oilsands expansion in northern Alberta.

The group includes creative and performing artists, authors, scientists, a lawyer, and Order of Canada recipients.

Actor Neve Campbell, Booker-prize-winning author and Officer of the Order of Canada Michael Ondaatje and musician Gord Downie of the rock group The Tragically Hip are among those who have signed the letter.

SO nobody with a real job then.

CDs are oil and aluminum. Have you ever heard a green bean bitch about bauxite production and smelting into aluminum?

Apparently it is benign since the anti Northern Gateway groupies constantly trot out the "pristine waterways and forests" around Kitimat.
