Was the speaker on break or what ?
The speakers havent been very good at controlling the MPs for years. They refuse to do anything about it even though they have plenty of powers that they can use.
Was the speaker on break or what ?
The Conservatives have set a poor example.
True- And the Liberals, The NDP and the Bloc- None of the Parties are innocent.
It is an insult to democracy and the soldiers that died. No more, no less and no excuses for such behaviour.
“Such a vile and universally condemned gesture is particularly shocking in this place of honour and tradition. The heat of partisanship never justifies a vicious personal attack that sullies the reputation of our parliamentary democracy,” he added.
Personally, if I had to put up with Harpo's anti democratic BS day in and day out, I would probably have given him that salute.Really, honor and tradition.
When the Conservatives haven't been shutting Parliament down altogether, they've been acting in some pretty sleazy ways to derail debate and circumvent the electoral system.
Neither the Conservatives nor the Liberals represent real respect for our democratic system.

We need a government that sets a positive tone made up of people that act like adults, not spoiled children. We already have a good opposition, it would make an excellent government.

If I was a remotely responsible Conservative MP I'd be demanding better leadership, it's Steven Harper that has turned our Parliament into the silly playground it now is. He had the chance to change things starting in 2006 but took the easy way out.
We have less accountability, less transparency and less democracy now. He may not be a Nazi, but he sure doesn't represent the kind of Canada that I grew up with.
Our house is our political forum, there's little doubt that the actions of our current PM have altered significantly how it operates, often in a negative way. While I don't support them, you can make the argument that the Liberal MPs who may have made this gesture were behaving in the same spirit that our PM has been acting in the last six years. Since when is it democractic to deny important information that will allow voters to make the best decision as the Conservatives have been caught doing repreatedly, or stretching or breaking election laws to gain advantage.
Respect flows both ways, our PM shows us little while demanding much. He may not be a little Hitler, but he doesn't represent true democratic principles either.
If the shoe fits wear it, you can't be one of most undemocratic PMs in our history and then complain when people treat you that way.
Allegations of ‘shocking’ Nazi salute to Stephen Harper in the Commons provokes MP yelling match | News | National Post
Canada News: Liberal MPs deny giving Nazi salute to Stephen Harper - thestar.com
Could not find this being reported in the Globe or CBC Hmmm-
If these members used such a gesture they should be kicked out of Caucus. Perhaps video will show if they did or did not. Then it is up to the Speaker for other consequences.
or the second time this year, the House of Commons erupted into yelling between the government and the opposition over Nazi-related accusations.
In a bizarre chain of events, Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver rose Monday on a point of order and apologized for accusing two unnamed members of the opposition of giving Prime Minister Stephen Harper a Nazi salute in the House last week during the omnibus bill vote.
Oliver said he should not have slighted the entire opposition. He then proceeded to name the two members he was accusing — veteran Liberal MPs Wayne Easter [Malpeque, P.E.I.] and Hedy Fry [Vancouver Centre] — and re-accused them of a “shocking gesture [and] personal attack that sullies the reputation of our parliamentary democracy.”
“They raised their arms in a rigid position, at a 45 degree angle, clearly the gesture of the Nazi salute,” he said. “There was no ambiguity.”
“I had not wanted to prolong this, [however] the member’s denial, and his and other members’ demand for identification of individuals involved compel me to respond,” Oliver said.
