Glad to hear about the angiogram. Valve replacements are getting to be such a common operation now it is incredible. It is still open heart surgery but it seems so routine today. At one time these operations were only done in a few major hospitals in a few major cities. in the world. The really neat thing is that he will be wanting to run around the block as soon as he gets home and his biggest pain will be the damn incision. My neighbor had quintuple by-pass surgery and two days later he was out walking with his wife.

Yes, we've heard the same, and that's nice to know.

.......We also ate at 'Barb's Fish & Chips' at the fisherman's wharf in Victoria. Right up there with the best halibut and chips I've ever had, (a little pricey, but it is tourist season, so I guess they have to make hay while the sunshines.) Just a little place on the dock, but very nice atmosphere, for sure.

Oh I'm happy you decided to try it. I forgot to mention that it's a bit on the expensive side. Glad you enjoyed it though.

.....Angiogram went well, no bad arteries, so, it will just be the valve replacement, it is the aeortavalve which sends the new blood through to the aeorta, it's only opening about 30 to 40 %, so that is why all the fatigue. I listened to his heart, sounds just like someone walking with one very squeaky shoe, 'exactly', like that, very wierd.
Have to wait for call now, for the surgery date, we can't wait, want to get this done,
and get rid of that squeak.
They went in through the 'wrist', which is much easier 'after' the fact, as one can get up right away, as with groin entry, they have to lay flat all day.

Glad to hear the news was good, relatively speaking. I'm sure you'll both be glad to have it all done with though. Keep us posted ok?

OK, I'll get this question into the right thread.
Does anyone know of a very good 'steak restaurant', either in the nanaimo/Parksville, or Campbell
River area

I don't know about locations on the island, aside from Victoria, but, although it may not be classed as high class dining I've always had good luck with the Keg restaurants.

One thing about the Keg is that you know what you're going to get. There is a certain minimum standard that the Keg doesn't go below. I would go to any Keg and expect reasonable quality and service and know I wouldn't be disappointed.

I can't decide between The Elephant bar and Claim Jumper. Both are excellent restaurants where you can take family and friends and have a great time. The Elephant Bar has a bit of everything on the menu, same as Claim Jumper, but Claim Jumper is also noted for it's ribs.

Two spots I've enjoyed a great deal are Dutch Dreams, and ice cream shop with an excellent Dutch atmosphere. Theo got the place from his father so it's a tradition that's been handed down. It's very small inside, with a fantastic selection of hard ice cream. A small eating area will fill up quickly in the summer but there is always the bench outside.

You can get standard fare with flare and some exciting dishes made right at your table for you. It's closed in the winter but for three other seasons it makes St.Clare and Vaughan ground zero for ice cream treats in Toronto.

The second place, which we just visited for our anniversary is Hugh's Room. Perhaps the best place to see an act in Toronto. And that doesn't come lightly, Toronto has a number of fantastic place from with to view a band. Hugh's Room is well laid out with great seating to see the stage. The sound is excellent and the service had us wanting for nothing.

Bread and water hit the table almost as soon as you are seated, and your drink order is taken. As you look over the menu which is small but covers well a selection to fit most everyone. Veggie, to surf and turf, salad to pasta and the ability to bring the heat without burning your lips off.

We watched a show case from the Moonshine Cafe play and for those who feel that music has lost it's touch these days have to get out to see these folks play. As an aside, a fifteen year old girl covered Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, my wife cried. It was that good.

The food arrived hot and freshly prepared. The table was cleared quickly without being at all intrusive. All in all, it was exactly the way I like to be treated at a restaurant and the prices are a bit reflective of that. Well worth the quality.

Interesting art on the walls that feature local artists. You've got to support that kind of thing.

Reservations are easy to make over the web and confirmed via telephone. Call early and talk sweetly and you can find yourself and your guest at a table for two at the foot of the stage. Great for a large group too!
