Canadians have fewer guns than Americans.

This is not a myth. People are citing Michael Moore incorrectly when he stated that Winsor, Ontario had more guns per capita than the US. Maybe this is correct (I don't know and I would like to know his source). Data from Stats Canada and the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics, nationally there are .25 guns per capita in Canada while in the US it is .85 (see http://www.guncontrol.ca/Content/Cda-US.htm)

Given this data, Canadians have less than 1/3 as many guns and most of those are rifles instead of handguns. It therefore misleading to represent all of Canada by the one community of Winsor and it is now becoming a myth that Canadians as a whole have more guns than Americans..

Canadians all say "eh" and "aboot". Sure, some of us do, but Canada is a big country with
many different people who speak many different languages with different dialects.


Everyone in Quebec speaks French. Although a large percentage of the Province's
population is Francophone, there is also a large number of Anglophones and Allophones.


Canadians have fewer guns than Americans. Canadians have just as many, if not more; we just
have fewer murders. If you want stats and figures, see Michael Moore's excellent documentary, Bowling for Columbine.


Canada's national sport is Hockey. Not completely true. While Hockey is very popular, and considered
our national pastime, our national sport is Lacrosse. Oh, and we invented Baseball too.

In 1994, the Federal Government introduced Bill C-212 that officially made Hockey Canada’s National Winter Sport and Lacrosse Canada’s National Summer Sport. Thanks Rolly! So the answer is both!


Canadians policemen are all Mounties dressed in red uniforms. Our cops are the same
as American cops. The Mounties usually only dress up in red for for special occasions.

Many of these "myths" are only perpetuated by Canadians who like to beleive that Americans are acually that dumb, so we can inflate our own ego. Having been to the states more times than I can count, I have NEVER met an american who thinks we live in igloos, that we have snow 365 days of the year or that we are technologically uncivilised. As for the RCMP uniform, they understand the difference between a functional uniform and a ceremonial uniform as well as we do.

As for assuming al quebecers speak french, we have fewer guns and hockey being the national sport, I bet most Canadians beleive that too.

We need to get off the "let's whip america" bandwagon

QUESTIONS to ya'll

Hi, I'm the newest member of this forum.

I am from Philadelphia and I am writing an article on the views of Canadians. I would love if you can answer a couple of questions:

  • What do you like about the U.S.?
  • What do you dislike about the U.S.?
  • Is Philadelphia the capital of Pennsylvania?
  • Do you know that Canadian child programming , for example The Doodlebops and Caillou, are driving American mothers to the brink of insanity?
