TORONTO - Muslims want a safe Canada, too.

That's what Muhammad Robert Heft, a Muslim community leader in Scarborough, wants his fellow Torontonians to know as the RCMP arrested a Muslim man in the GTA for allegedly plotting a rail attack that would have taken innocent lives. Not only do Muslims in the city condemn the attack, they turned over information in a bid to help foil it.

"There is going to be backlash," he said, alluding to those who will blame the Muslim community. "But I want to reiterate. Who was the one who tipped the RCMP off? It was our community."

Terrorism charges outlined in this court document

Heft said Muslim leaders are often criticized for not speaking up or not turning over information about radicalized community members. They are cooperating, he said.

"We have to be on the front lines," he said. "To either nip it in the bud in the very beginning or co-operate with authorities so they can be brought to justice."

Heft himself runs an out-reach program for youth who are at risk of being radicalized.

"At the end of the day, it's not how you dress, it's how you think," he said. "In our community we may look a little different, but in our hearts we love Canada. It's our country. It's our tribe. We want safety for all Canadians regardless of their religion."

That's nice to see that the Muslim Community stepped up in Canada to turned these two individuals in.

That's not going to happen in the USA, 1. to much racial division, and 2. Muslims see how they get rewarded. - Hero doctor who helped nail Bin Laden tortured in Pakistani prison.

We gotta deport all the Moos-lums coz they don't support Canadian/American values!

Like religious tolerance.

Never heard of a deport all Muslims crew up here.

Heard of a restrict immigration bunch.

I am very pleased the Muslims ferreted out these guys themselves.
Kick 'em out based on their religion.

Don't let 'em in based on their religion.

Either way it's discrimination.

First of all the Muslim Community stepped up to the plate here and this is being
part of the Canadian mosaic. We have long been critical they either sympathize
or are silent this time they did the right thing.
No one suggests kicking them out for religious views. When discussing moving
them out is for those who commit criminal acts or lied on citizenship applications.
I could care less what religion people are, when they engage in criminal acts out.
That goes for those who are Christians, Voodoo artists and others not just Muslims.
Remember we sent some Nazi's from Europe back as well.

Hahaha, the cops here hold a news conference and they spend more time thanking themselves and padding themselves on the backs, in both french and English, rather than getting to the point and telling the attendees about the arrest.
I can understand how the American media would get frustrated with this show and tell type news conference when in the US they usually just make their announcements on the lawns of where the action is.

It's big news when an RCMP investigation foils an al-Qaeda terrorist plot aimed at a Via Rail passenger train.

South of the border, however, Fox News' Shepard Smith wasn't impressed by what he considered less than stellar television.

"It's how they roll," Smith told his viewers as the the RCMP explained the particulars of the case in French.

"God love Canada, but they're not great at the television."

They failed to make people irrationally fearful, overinflate what occurred, or wax hyperbolic at all. The nerve of simply reporting the news. It's no surprise it's immensely foreign to FOX news.

Guess Durry likes fiction, fantasy and misleading information.
