Look for combine wreckers for 350 engines Massey Ferguson used to use them, they all had 4 bolt mains
That's an amazing tip.

I should humor myself and spend a day phoning people from Toronto to ask if they know where I can find combine parts.

Im a gear head, what can I say?

A 260° cam outta be plenty for adding useable torque with 9:1 - 10:1 compression without blowing gas out the pipes. What are using for a carb? 650 mechanical secondary 4bbl?
You might need to add a new sub forum to the list.

Grampa had it set up with a one barrel Holley that I just transferred over to the new 283. Not sure I ever saw any spec as far as cfm. I've barely run it but it seems okay. Same thing with the cam as there were no markings and no one could tell me what I had. I found the boat on Craigslist just outside Detroit and put some blind faith into a Chevy die hard having made good choices when he built it back in 1964. Aluminum intake and the carb made me think he was trying.

That's interesting. I would have thought they would use diesels. We normally looked to boat engines for a good base. They are normally higher performance than a car engine. Just change the cam and distributor.

Thanks for the comments. This is better than porn.

1.94 / 1.50 76 cc heads. I have a spare set of 60 cc 1.72 / 1.50's. What happens with that swap?

Liking the idea of a new cam and here we go again. Interesting that the 350 is rated at 165 HP. I was told the stock 283 is rated at 185.

Curious about inspecting the crank and lower end and appreciate any related comments or insight.

Feels a bit like Christmas. :)

And 202 intake 160 exhaust on straight plug heads with forged crank. I might have one or two. ;)
No budget for a full time engine tuner in Plan A. Hoping for a tastes great / less filling compromise with fuel economy a fairly high priority.

It won't be driven hard but it's always nice to be ready if needed. 70 Mph would turn some heads and the jet drive gives a neat rooster tail. The previous owner said he ran it at 42 mph.

Curious about the average hours use per year with a combine and if the motor works hard. Never had the chance to bugger up a field of grain, likely for good reason. I will look differently at combines from now on bearing in mind I am not living in the heart land. I am along the highway to Ottawa though so when they pass through I'll be watching. Thank you again

A 260 cam is what they call an RV or towing cam. A notch above stock but a good notch. Excellent low end torque.

42 is damn fast on water. I'm fully aware of what the jet boat can do when having fun with the trim.

I'm kinda jealous.

Massey 750 & 850's came in both Perkin diesels and GM 350 engines in the 80's and 90's. 410 & 510's used 283's and 327's respectfully, old super 92's used the GM 292 straight 6 engine

White used dodge engines 6500's used 318 6700's used the 360, I think Perkins for a diesel could be Cummins I can't remember

JD I believe used GM engines as well, but they switched pretty quickly to their own little 4 cylinder diesel engine turbo'd can produce 125+ HP

WHy not put a diesel in the boat? Lots of power and better fuel economy.
Yep a little 4 cylinder JD or Kabota cheap on fuel and with a little tinkering produce good HP, can find old JD engines in RR air compressors, 410 & 510 JD backhoes, and older JD swathers/combines. I bought a 15kw generator w/ Kabota 4 cyl. for a case of beer a month ago, older light plants also have the Kabota engine.

Ottawa eyeing second-hand market to replace VIP and cargo fleet

e federal government is exploring the possibility of replacing its aging fleet of transportation planes as part of a planned bailout of the country's battered airline industry, federal sources said.

While plans to replace the Canadian Armed Forces' five CC-150 Polaris aircraft have been in the works for years, government officials said they have started to look at whether any deal can be found among commercial airlines that are currently looking for financial relief from Ottawa.

The airline industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and is facing a liquidity crisis, having been forced to cut back on a number of regular routes amid a sharp decline in demand.

Sources, whom CBC News agreed not to identify in order to discuss confidential elements of the procurement process and talks with the airline industry, said Air Canada is seen as a potential supplier for the fleet, which is used to transport cargo, troops and dignitaries such as the prime minister. Still, the sources said discussions are preliminary.

Last week, all potential suppliers were invited to signify their interest in the contract as part of an "invitation to qualify" published on a federal website.

"It is not a new project," a defence official said. "The reason why [the Canadian Armed Forces] are looking at this now is really because of the fact there have been significant changes in the global aircraft market this year. They are looking at options to see what suppliers might have available, because order books are looking different than they were a year ago."

Another official confirmed the government sees a possible window to inject liquidity into the airline industry at the same time as it seeks to replace its fleet of gas guzzling transport aircraft.

"When the government decided a few weeks ago to help the airline sector, there was a situation where it became possible to address two issues at once, namely helping the airline industry at the same time as replacing an aging and polluting fleet," the official said.

Proceed with caution

Still, aviation expert John Gradek cautioned that a company like Air Canada would much prefer to hold on to its most recent aircraft and sell the older ones to the government.

"Would you want to trade old for old?" he asked......More

Just to add you can find reconditioned 4cyl Isuzu engines for around a grand they are used in most newer swathers
