That's an amazing tip.Look for combine wreckers for 350 engines Massey Ferguson used to use them, they all had 4 bolt mains
I should humor myself and spend a day phoning people from Toronto to ask if they know where I can find combine parts.

You might need to add a new sub forum to the list.Im a gear head, what can I say?
A 260° cam outta be plenty for adding useable torque with 9:1 - 10:1 compression without blowing gas out the pipes. What are using for a carb? 650 mechanical secondary 4bbl?
We may need to talk more about thisAnd 202 intake 160 exhaust on straight plug heads with forged crank. I might have one or two.

Grampa had it set up with a one barrel Holley that I just transferred over to the new 283. Not sure I ever saw any spec as far as cfm. I've barely run it but it seems okay. Same thing with the cam as there were no markings and no one could tell me what I had. I found the boat on Craigslist just outside Detroit and put some blind faith into a Chevy die hard having made good choices when he built it back in 1964. Aluminum intake and the carb made me think he was trying.
If I care to kick around the back of the shop I probably can as wellAnd 202 intake 160 exhaust on straight plug heads with forged crank. I might have one or two.
That's interesting. I would have thought they would use diesels. We normally looked to boat engines for a good base. They are normally higher performance than a car engine. Just change the cam and distributor.Look for combine wreckers for 350 engines Massey Ferguson used to use them, they all had 4 bolt mains
No budget for a full time engine tuner in Plan A. Hoping for a tastes great / less filling compromise with fuel economy a fairly high priority. And 202 intake 160 exhaust on straight plug heads with forged crank. I might have one or two.
Curious about the average hours use per year with a combine and if the motor works hard. Never had the chance to bugger up a field of grain, likely for good reason. I will look differently at combines from now on bearing in mind I am not living in the heart land. I am along the highway to Ottawa though so when they pass through I'll be watching. Thank you againLook for combine wreckers for 350 engines Massey Ferguson used to use them, they all had 4 bolt mains
A 260 cam is what they call an RV or towing cam. A notch above stock but a good notch. Excellent low end torque. No budget for a full time engine tuner in Plan A. Hoping for a tastes great / less filling compromise with fuel economy a fairly high priority.
It won't be driven hard but it's always nice to be ready if needed. 70 Mph would turn some heads and the jet drive gives a neat rooster tail. The previous owner said he ran it at 42 mph.
Massey 750 & 850's came in both Perkin diesels and GM 350 engines in the 80's and 90's. 410 & 510's used 283's and 327's respectfully, old super 92's used the GM 292 straight 6 engineThat's interesting. Yep a little 4 cylinder JD or Kabota cheap on fuel and with a little tinkering produce good HP, can find old JD engines in RR air compressors, 410 & 510 JD backhoes, and older JD swathers/combines. I bought a 15kw generator w/ Kabota 4 cyl. for a case of beer a month ago, older light plants also have the Kabota engine.WHy not put a diesel in the boat? Lots of power and better fuel economy.
Just to add you can find reconditioned 4cyl Isuzu engines for around a grand they are used in most newer swathersYep a little 4 cylinder JD or Kabota cheap on fuel and with a little tinkering produce good HP, can find old JD engines in RR air compressors, 410 & 510 JD backhoes, and older JD swathers/combines.
