That IS a REALLY hokey picture. I understand the obvious "meaning" of it, but it's just plain pointless, is the current situation in Iraq what that woman is supposedly daring to hope for???
If so, it was a stupid dare. Iraqi women were NOT in Taliban Afghanistan, and the images of burkha-clad women don't necessarily hold much weight in respect to Iraq.
The whole "freeing women" notion that has replaced the WMD scare tactics as one of the centrepieces in the western "missions" in both Iraq and Afghanistan, while noble, is patently ridiculous and demonstrably false...
Or is that picture somehow mwant to suggest that the "nay" votes in this poll were exclusively women??
If the people of the country say get OUT (and I can't vouch for the validity of the data, but compared to the number of civilians dying PRE invasion, it sure as hell seems a LOT worse now, and everyday folks care about their EVERYDAY LIVES and not the standing of their leaders on the international stage- see "USA") then there is no discounting that, plain and simple, and there is NO WAY that the west can force religious woman-belittling zealots into becoming anything but.. either way it's not any other invading countries business how that stuff plays out domestically
