Lest We Forget
Broad shoulders, Bright eyesTall
with confidenceMother's tears, Father's pride
FamilyStands on the dock
As the ship pulls away.
EuropeBattles lie in the wake
Of young soldiers;
Boys and girls
Adults before their time
All dreamOf the romances of war,
Of the role they will play
Oblivious to the hell
Waiting for them
Beyond the shore.
Bombs fly,Canons blaze,Guns fire;Khat
!A soldier falls
Not older than nineteen
he wasBehind him,
Family,Friends,A lover;
All never to see him again.
Fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, sons,
Mothers, sisters, aunts, nieces, daughters
On the frontlines,
In the hospitals;
All striving, fighting
For a common goal;
All in this fight together.
Victory,Defeat,
The material, physical fight is over,
But the emotional, internal fight
Will forever continue
Forever will they relive,
Forever will they remember,
Forever will they grieve
Forever will they honour
And be honoured.
They did the unthinkable;
They wentTo Hell and Back again
They all gave the ultimate sacrifice;
They fought,They sweated,
They cried,They bled,They died;
Many gave their young lives
All in the name of their country,
All in the name of pride,
All in the name of love,
All in the name of Freedom;
They brought us to where we are today.
May we forever respect them,
May we forever thank them,
May we forever honour them,
May we forever remember;
Lest We Forget
