Northern Ontario,
In reading some history one finds that a lot of the Francophone / Anglophone antagonism starts with the conscription in world war one then world war two...with most of the people that were pro-conscription were anglophones and the Antis were mostly francophones.....

Re conscription, I remember WW11 when the young men were being shipped out wholesale and there was a lot of anger because the French Canadians resisted, saying 'It's not our war'.
This, while the country they identified with was occupied by the Nazis!
Yes, I remember that clearly. The French Canadians could only think it was England's war while all of Europe was being taken over country by country. They didn't seem to realize that the whole world including THEM would be speaking German shortly if the allies were defeated.

One, Quebecers don't "identify" with France. Even in WWI they did not consider France their "mother" country. They did not consider it their war, and rightly so, in my opinion. Throwing in the "end up speaking german" is a bullshyte threat put out there to scare little kids and those with diminished brain capacity. Obviously it worked with you.

The Germans couldn't even get off the mainland and occupy GB, how the hell do you think they were going to manage to cross the pond?

I can tell you are not old enough to have been around in WW11. Well I was so don't tell me about what was going on. Every man, woman and child over the age of 3 was immersed in the gravity of the world situation. It was a time that one doesn't ever forget.

If the time had come for Germany to invade North America I expect they would have done so just as easily as the Japanese got to Pearl Harbor. Or did you even know about that attack? The Germans certainly got to GB easily enough to bomb the hell out them. Talk to veterans if you can still find any, or war brides or any survivors of WW11. They will tell you the real story.

People who think they know history by the watered down events, rewritten to be politically correct, cannot be blamed for their ignorance I guess. That is they way they have been taught. Just like those who deny that the holocaust happened.
There are so few left who experienced the events in real time that the pc crowd can say anything they like. There's no one left around to dispute it.

Bombed the hell out of England eh...... yup, thoroughly brainwashed. The facts do not support your view. It is no longer 1942 and we actually know what happened over there between '33 and '45, at least some of us do.

BTW, the city of London is just a small part of jolly ol England.

Haha! Where are you getting your 'facts' from? From modern history books? From the internet? Have you ever talked to someone who was there?
Take a stroll to your nearest Canadian Legion and see if you can find any old person who was actually 'there'. You will find out what the real facts are about Germany's capabilities and how close they came to winning the war. And would have won if the rest of the world besides GB had not united and persevered.
There are even young people who visit places like Auschwitz and party there. It's all about 'them'. They have no idea, not a care about the thousands of people who suffered unimaginable horrors and were executed there. Because they have become so numb to the realities of the evil in the world, they can't even see what is happening right now; that another evil force is threatening their freedoms, lifestyles and their lives. That's how brainwashed they are.
Dwight Eisenhower is cited as saying, 'takes lots of pictures so that what happened here is never forgotten'. Where are the pictures? There are people who deny that it ever happened! That's how brainwashed they are.
History repeats itself because of the creeping plague of political correctness.

I've one up you. I haven't heard JUST from the allied side of things. My fathers best friend was in the German army. An Austrian conscript that lost 3 brothers fighting for the nazi's. I've already heard the stories of what it was like on that side of the line and why it started falling apart. So screw you and your brainwashed war time propaganda stories. Hitler had gone as far as he could have gone.

You want to prove anything I have said, wrong. You go right ahead. Of the ones that have posted so far in this thread, yes, I am the more knowledgeable. Canadian history, and WWI and WWII more so, have always been a big interest for me. I have done ALOT of reading and studying and talking to those that fought, on both sides.

You want to be a smart a$$ and sarcastic, you go right ahead, no skin off my a$$.

What is your view on Robert Borden, before , during and after the war...
Much maligned by some, even if he did made sure that Canada was a distinct country with it's own army, not serving under the British after WW1

You're asking a Liberal what he thought of a Conservative Prime Minister. What can I say, at least he wasn't a drunk like Macdonald. He screwed up what Laurier had started with our Navy. He alienated his own caucus, he fully alienated French from English and to top it off the west from central Canada.

And people say Trudeau was detrimental to Canada.

How much of John A's drunkenness was fact and how much is folklore? Some people actually do their best thinking after they've had a few 'sauce'.

And I thought you were not an ideologue.... a Liberal before you were born even..lol
I even admit to voting for Trudeau senior until he screwed me in '75 with wage and price control which didn't work in the end, then screwed me again in '97 with their change in the capital gains laws . I've even voted NDP at the provincial level a few times.
So I can see the good and the bad of past government with a somewhat objective eye, and I say somewhat, because opinions are always colored by our life experiences....My Dad hated Borden with a passion, but I can see that the circumstances were not favorable for any prime minister at the time, and Bourassa at the time rightly or wrongly did a lot to stir things up.

We are all ideologues to a certain degree. I agree with your Dad when it comes to Borden. I much preferred Laurier over him. As for Bourassa, I think time told the story that what he did was for the best. As much as I really didn't care for King (bit of a nutcase IMO) he ended up implementing What Bourassa wanted seen done, even if it was just 7 days and more show than anything else.He helped move Canada more towards independence from Britain than Borden, that's for damn sure.
