I pronounce "hike" as "hike."
You have to remember that there are myriads of accents and dialects in the UK, and people just ten miles apart can sound almost unintelligible to each other.

Teachers should learn how to pronounce their students' names. If you work in a multicultural environment, make the effort to listen to how people say their names.

At least that's a step up from being home schooled out behind the shed though innit?

I wouldn't know. I've never even heard of anyone being home schooled behind a shed.

Maybe you could explain what it was like to be schooled like that.

You are the expert and we have discussed your education before
I suppose the pills are kicking in though so we forgive your lapse

So are you going to tell us what it was like to be home schooled behind a shed or not?

You laugh now, but mispronouncing a name could have world ending implications. What if your school was on a hellmouth and instead of saying a student's name you say the name of a demon, thereby summoning it?

If you saw the nuns that taught at my old school, you would not have said that.
All the demons that got summoned there skipped out the nearest open window, and went straight to the pool hall down on Main Street for red hot women and Ice cold beer...

Must have been quite a change for them too
certainly an education

If pronouncing the name of the student is deliberately and for ridiculing .. it is bad, but if not deliberately, it is not.
The teacher should also be respected and honored by the students, as do they respect their fathers.
Anyhow, it is certainly a grave aggression and not only a micro one; if it is deliberately and for ridiculing and mockery.
