This morning looks just like yesterday morning. At 9:30 AM, our Canadian Tire thermometer tells us it is 28 degrees in the shade.

I'm planning a packed lunch as we speak, off to the ocean side, where there is actually a breeze, at least
there was one yesterday.

There is a nice picnic bench there, with roof overhead, the view is spectacular, what more could one ask
for, far too hot at home once 1 oclock gets here, I'll check canadian tire specials on the way, pick up
a paper to read, and we're off.

It can be entertaining there as well, it's very quiet, but there is a boat launch close by, and some of
the dumb things so-called boaters do is hillarious, while launching or coming in to shore, at least two
f*** ups a week.

All you guys complaining about the heat were probably the same guys complaining about the cold during the winter....

We had a very nice July with solid sunshine. August has been the same. We had 33 degrees yesterday. This morning we woke up to rain. We are suppose to get back to sunny and warm tomorrow.
supposed to have thunderstorm activity sometime today. The forecast says we are back into warm and sunny.

It's supposed to be sunny right now but the smoke is so heavy. I should be seeing blue ocean from my house and it looks like dense fog it's so smoky out there. We ate dinner at a little pub in Qualicum Beach last night. Lots of people sitting outside but even though it was really warm, most people kept the windows closed and I assume it was due to the smoke outside. My husband is on another forum and he says there is a fellow there from Penticton that says the smoke is so thick he cannot even go outside to work. My sister was feeling so sick when she was in Kamloops Hospital and she thought it was the smoke. I don't think the smoke was making her sick as there were too many other factors but I'm sure it didn't help her breathing.

It took me a second or two to identify a Nanaimo Bar........Surely it can be salvaged :roll:

That really doesn't resemble a Nanaimo Bar. Looks like the middle is missing completely.

We have 29 degrees right now but it is quite hazy, The sun is out but it is looking a peculiar shade of orange.
I assume that is part of the effects of the smoke.

You called?

No heat wave down here (on the east side of the peninsula). It got kind of hot before the rain, now is very nice - though we're just up from the water & get the ocean breeze at night which gives us a cool start to the day. Could see a smoggy brown tinge to the sky off to the NE before the rain, but didn't notice any smell of smoke.

Wonder why you'd get the smoke in Nanaimo? When we lived in the Fraser Valley the winds from the interior (which gave us the hottest weather in the summer & the coldest in winter - but was always the cleanest air, would scour out the yucky Vancouver & Bellingham smog) usually seemed to travel through heading SSW towards Bellingham.

Hmmm.... The Turkey Vultures are circling right overhead, really low, I think I'll skip drinking my mug o' tea on the deck.... Crikey! They're big birds! Love the way they soar so effortlessly. Although the Osprey does not appear to appreciate them at all, guess he's missed breakfast or something, looks very cranky.

Now where'd I put my mug of tea....? Sheesh!
Morning all!

yes, we had the smoke in courtenay too, ' been gone for days now', but it was coming right down thru
jarvis inlet from the williams lake general area, many fires up there, just the way the air
currents were travelling at that time I guess, because we haven't experienced that before in
courtenay, and I certainly don't want it again.

we use to see turkey vultures when we lived in the black creek area, they would
clean up all the road kill, and yes, they are big.

Glad to hear the air has returned to the lovely sparkly stuff it is in Courtenay. When we first started thinking about returning to the Island, we took a wonderful trip up through Courtenay, Comox & Campbell River. Loved it! I discovered Roderick Haig-Brown's wonderful books in the sixties (avid fisherperson, me) and it was like coming home. Well, all the Island has always felt that way to me, from the moment I saw it coming into view from the deck of the ferry. We'd have moved up that way when we finally returned - medical reasons made it necessary for us to be in Victoria, which we enjoy too.

We saw one Turkey Vulture in '67 in the Valley. So exciting! Then none to be seen there for about thirty years. Then they suddenly came back. Just a few at first, steadily increasing in numbers until we would be surprised if we didn't see any soaring above us when out walking in the Valley. Lots of wonderful birds here, interesting variations in many of them from their Mainland counterparts. Lots of seabirds to study up on. Beaches are just a five minute walk away so lots to see.
