Well, at least compared with what we've been having it is a heat wave of sorts. According to the weatherman, the temperature will get to at least 25C(77F) today and up to 27C(about 81F) later in the week. I love it.

No heat wave here yet Juan. It may have reached 31C a time or two, but we don't get too excited until Osoyoos hits 40 and we're at about 39.

Heat wave?!? The frickin' weather here in Ontario SUCKS right now. Chilly in the evenings, wind blowing almost every day. It feels more like fall most evenings rather than spring.:-:)angryfire:

We are going to hit at least 30C today. (86 degrees F) The temperature is already 26C and we don't usually peak until 2:00 in the afternoon.

I'm a little envious. We don't have a/c yet. I promise myself I will get a/c every heat wave but I usually put it off till the weather changes. What I really want is a heat pump that will save me enough on the heat in Winter to pay for the a/c during the few heat waves we have in the Summer.

Before you get a heat pump, check it out very carefully, apparently they are not for every situation, a lot swear by them, some don't. I have no opinion personally although my neighbour was happy with his. I have a high efficiency Bryant Furnace and Bryant A/C - no problems in 7 years.

I've been looking at heat pumps for a long time. It would appear that our climate in Nanaimo is just about perfect for running a heat pump. The temp in Winter doesn't get that cold so the heat pump is still able to suck some heat out of the outside air at the coldest temperature. The other thing is that we don't get sustained hot weather to need a/c very often.

That's probably the way to go then.

Juan you cannot just have a heat pump. You must have a back up furnace like forced air electric or natural gas. It does get cold enough here to need the back up. Your heat pump will only heat to a certain warmth and if you don't have the required back up, you are going to freeze. Okay - you're going to be very cold. We live in a house that is less than 4 years old. We chose not to have the heat pump because of the noise they make. Hard on the whole neighbourhood for sleeping no matter which time of the year. Since that time they have come out with much better, much quieter models. It's very important to check on the noise level. Check for efficiency as well. Do a lot of looking around (anyone who is buying one)and be sure you hang in there with brand names that you know make a quality product. They are not cheap.

YOu are right there VanIsle, the back up can be as simple as a couple of baseboard heaters, but when I was advising Juan I had a pretty strong feeling there is in some casese a down side to heat pumps. The best advice I could give anyone is just to consult a reputable heaing/plumbing dealer and installer in his area. I'm pretty sure there used to be one in Nanaimo on Wallace St. right near the viaduct.

i just came home with an inflatable bed, with built in pump, and it is quite high, not at floor level. We live in a two story house, and the temperature upstairs at bed time is unbrearable. Downstairs it
is actually chilly, so we will move down there to sleep. We have one big, long
sofa to sleep on, so now we have something for each of us.
(Upstairs we sleep 'together', just wanted to make that clear.);-);-);-)
