This is Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama's Legacy in Libya-Smugglers in Libya are auctioning migrants off as slaves..........

Earlier this year, survivors of Libya’s slave trade testified to the United Nations on their horrific experiences. The International Organization for Migration, IOM, corroborated these claims by establishing that Libya’s slave trade, as The Guardian wrote, “has become so normalized that people are being traded in public.”

Libya's descent into chaos began after the ousting of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, who ruled the African country for 42 years. On the basis of humanitarian intervention, the United States, European Union and NATO launched an invasion of the country to overthrow the government.

Under the leadership of Colonel Gaddafi, Libya was the most developed country on the African continent. Basic services were socialized, such as healthcare and housing, and Libya had the highest standard of living in all of Africa.

Since 2014, some 600,000 asylum seekers have traversed the Mediterranean from North Africa to Italy. Another 12,000 have perished during the journey.

I am still not really sure what that whole Arab Spring thing was and as for Libya that was insane on the face of it.

According to a report by the United Nation’s International Labour Organization, nearly 200 million people are victims of modern slavery or child labor around the globe. In 2016, 40.3 million men, women and children were victims of modern slavery. Nearly one in ten children, or 151.6 million people, are victims of child labor.

The report defines “modern slavery” as “the various forms of coercion prohibited in international instruments on human rights and labour standards.” This definition includes slavery, state-imposed forced labor, forced marriage, and human trafficking. One in four victims of forced labor are children, and 71 percent of total victims are female.

On any given day in 2016, approximately 16 million individuals were forced to work in the private sector. More than half of this labor involves the domestic, construction and manufacturing sectors. On average, victims are held for 20.5 months before escaping or being released.

The study also reports that 4.8 million people are victims of forced sexual exploitation. On average, victims are held for 23.4 months before escaping or being freed. The vast majority are women and girls, and children represent more than 20 percent of the victims.

The issue is exacerbated in countries that are victims to neocolonial exploitation and imperialist conquest. A video released by CNN this week showed youth being auctioned off as farm laborers in Libya, a country devastated by the US-backed war launched by the Obama administration.

A 2016 investigation by Amnesty International revealed that children as young as seven are working in perilous conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to mine cobalt that ends up in smartphones, cars and computers sold to millions across the world. The mines supply corporations such as Apple, Microsoft and Vodafone.

The United Nations and leaders of industrialized countries have only taken modest measures to tackle the issues of modern slavery and child labor. This epidemic is not a question of laws and reforms, but a consequence of capitalism.

How much do you get at the recycle shop when it breaks or becomes otherwise useless??

Doesn't anybody remember Ghadaffi? He was a fricken monster.
You have swallowed a load of bullshit, I thought you should know that.

For over four decades, Gaddafi promoted economic democracy and used the nationalized oil wealth to sustain progressive social welfare programs for all Libyans. Under Gaddafi’s rule, Libyans enjoyed not only free health-care and free education, but also free electricity and interest-free loans. Now thanks to NATO’s intervention the health-care sector is on the verge of collapse as thousands of Filipino health workers flee the country, institutions of higher education across the East of the country are shut down, and black outs are a common occurrence in once thriving Tripoli.

You seem to be promoting that being sodomized with a bayonet for bringing the evil things, listed above, on his people for a non-stop period of about 4 decades. I can see why JT isn't doing that for the Canadian people. The scary part isn't that you have that POV it is that the collective doesn't seem to know just how big of a liar you are or perhaps they see that as a a bonus as you are mimicking what they wish was true.

They are 6 for $1,299 at the Tripoli Costco.
How much for the ones that wash up on shore??

WElll Well WEll..the democratic fake news sex machine strikes again...the bunch of weiners eh?

Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi, who was murdered by Western-backed rebels on October 20, 2011, planned to create a gold-backed African currency to compete with the dollar and euro.

Newly disclosed emails show that Libya’s plan to create a gold-backed currency to compete with the euro and dollar was a motive for NATO’s intervention.

Yup, as soon as your oil goes off the dollar, you're gonna get 'liberated'.

Same happened to Saddam.

According to the direction the place has gone since his death would seem to back that up of do you not want to explore what happens to a place that comes under NATO control? Venezuela just collapsed thanks to US intervention, no cake??

The social programs that Libya had in place is better than what North America or the EU has in place for it's people so how does the term 'monster' apply other than in the imagination of the ill-informed loco collective.. To find similar places you would have to visit Kuwait, Qatar, or Bahrain. Saudi doesn't qualify as they enrich only an elite part of society yet Canada support them while we we part of the war machine sent to Libya. Ottawa might want to start putting in some longer hours so they are a clue to how the world really works. The memos from DC seem to be a few facts shy of being the truth on all topics in case you haven't noticed.

Fool.
He was 100 times better than what they have now.
And what Europe got as a gift for his death.
Perhaps the flood of immigrants is part of why he was taken out. The immigrants from other places are serving to destabilize the EU even more than they usually are. That works to the advantage of a NATO after the US (and Canada) drop out as they need a boots on the ground military to handle the unrest and all the tanks and such they have are for civil unrest rather than a Russian invasion.
