O.K. if 'universal health care' is in Canada, then why do some Canadians go to the States for care. The waiting list in Canada is so long for some things that people die before they get the care needed. All the really good doctors leave Canada because of the caps put on billing. It's not right or fair but that's the way it is.

That said, if the U.S. didn't have so many offshore commitments such as wars, giving AID to other nations in need, being expected to act as the military force for the United Nations in so many of their little experiments, it would be a slam dunk.

I am all for isolation to start with - pull everyone home, sort out individual needs, pay for education, healthcare, senior care, child care, all the social programs for which people qualified and were in need, that all the politicians have the same health programs as the general population are expected to have - and if they wish increased coverage, they would pay extra for it....it should be a choice ....

The U.S. is far too busy spending money elsewhere in unwinnable situations. An example I often use is the fifty plus years the military has been patrolling the DMZ between the two Koreas.... we could use that funding at home. This latest war is just a drop in the bucket compared with the international 'firefighting' the U.S. is automatically expected to supply.

Build me a wall
to keep out the poor
what do I need to see their suffering for
our people need our wealth of us all

Let other nations fall
And freedom devolve
To a tyrannical medieval hell hole
It’s wasn’t our place anyway at all

Make it so tall
So it’s like our heads in the sand
Where we don’t see the evil at hand
Only our positive thoughts that’s all

Cause we like to pretend
That if we do nothing to them
We are safe from all men
And what we have will never end

I wish Gates would give away 20 Billion. I have some dental bills coming up,not covered by anyone but ME,in Canada. Hey,Mikey, send me 12 thou and I won't criticize you for a week. I am not suggesting Gates is a bad person, not at all. He has done well with his charity.BUT,he is a capitalist, and makes no bones about it. Mikey,on the other hand, pretends to be the everyday joe while rolling his slovenly body in a bed of lucre that he lied to obtain. He pushed the buttons of the lambs and they gave him thier gold. So tell me,enlightened one,who would you rather drink beer with?

While Moore might screw you for the price of a ticket when you find out his movies are made to make money, the boning Gates gives you lasts for years.
Did you think it was about getting all these wonderful people together to talk about fixing all the wrongs in our world? Silly bugger.

I'd rather drink beer with Al and Ron of course. Neither Moore nor Gates can teach me anything I need to know.

And you can be sure the Bill isn't going to be forwarding any sums to you in the near future for any reason.

Gates is as much a sociopath as the "Robber Barons" of the 19th century. He makes such a big deal about fighting piracy, but his own main product was originally reverse-engineered from an OS he stole from Apple.

He's made $billions by ruthlessly eliminating his competitors in violation of the same anti-trust laws first created to deal with those Robber Barons. In doing so he's forced consumers to buy a product that was overpriced and under-developed(and a dream for hackers because of all the holes). Most first versions of Windows were betaware and Microsoft saved $billions by forcing the user to do most of the debugging. If Bush hadn't stole the 2000 election from Gore, Microsoft would have been broken up after its conviction of violating anti-trust laws in the late 1990s. Gates ill-gotten fortune would have decreased dramatically.

Is it really such a good idea to put such a man in a position of trust on such an important issue just so he can rehabilitate his reputation the way Carnegie and Getty did?

As for Moore, he monopolizes nothing, his movies are just a few among thousands and no one is forced to view them. He provides an important service in giving us a viewpoint that is no longer available in mainstream media because of corporate control.

In his films, Moore condemns the automotive, energy, healthcare, and other industries, claiming their intense greed compromises their ethics.

In contrast to the small to negative profit margins of the targets of his critiques, Moore the 'philanthropist' on the other hand, enjoys a 94% margin from his films, earning $292 million

I think you missed the mark there - the corporations might have 'small profit margins' but the upper management who makes the decisions get filthy rich for their efforts, which include
-resisting 3-point seat belts for 30 years
- paying for denial of global warming truth thereby subjecting all of humanity and nature to a serious threat
- making toxic products without telling consumers even though the management knew of the dangers

Bush's endless lies and his corporate welfare schemes do far more harm to the USA and the world. Yet, for some reason, people on this forum persist in condemning everyone else.
