A man in British Columbia said he was fired from his job after complaining on social media about the company gift he received for the Christmas holiday.
Hussien Mehaidli, from Burnaby, said Canadian employees at Fastenal were gifted a 350 ml bottle of barbecue sauce from Edmonton-based company Get Sauced and a wooden barbecue scraper.
In the past, Mehaidli said workers at the U.S.-based industrial and construction materials wholesaler would get a box filled with lots of goodies, like cookies, chocolate and beef jerky.
It was as if the Christmas Grinch selected the gifts.
“I work really hard,” Mehaidli, 27, told CTV News. “We get pushed really hard to reach our sales goals. I felt I gave this company so much and I felt really disrespected when I was given barbecue sauce as a holiday gift.”

He decided to vent his frustration through an anonymous Twitter account and tagged the company’s Canadian and American profiles.
“What kind of multi billion dollar company gifts it’s (sic) Canadian employees barbecue sauce as a holiday gift? Yet the USA employees stuff their face with an actual holiday gift box!”
A day later, he was called in by his manager about the tweet.
“He called me by my Twitter name,” Mehaidli said.
He was asked to delete the tweet, but he had already done so.
Mehaidli thinks management was able to identify his Twitter account because a photo showing WWE tickets he bought for a Vancouver show also revealed his computer work station and parts of his workplace.
On Dec. 30, just 10 days later, he was called in again by his manager and was promptly fired.
According to an “exit interview” letter Mehaidli received, he was terminated for “violation of standards of conduct policy – acceptable conduct section.”
“Christmas just came by,” Mehaidli said. “There are bills to be paid, my visa bill. Money is an issue. I’m a very heavy believer in God and everything happens for a reason, but I believe I was done very, very dirty.”
