I think it also illistrates that Liberals have no sense of humour. :)

You're right, when the topic is man's savagery to man, liberals have little room for humor. It is the conservative that delights in his own ruthlessness and finds humor where no one else could. Oddly, in all other things not pertaining to triumph, the liberal has the better humor - we have the baboon conservative to watch.

Why meat with Bono? He'll praise you if he gets what he wants and he'll stab you in the back if he doesn't. Ask Jean Chretien. He experienced both sides of Bono.

How many people would be available to discuss the situation with the PM who are FAR more knowledgable in the topic than Bono is?

He's not a Canadian citizen/taxpayer, or a representative of the government of Ireland. Just because he's a rock star doesn't mean he deserves the ear of politicians around the world.

And U2 has kept on getting crappier with every album for roughly the last 20 years.

The Europeans and North Americans have been pouring money and aid into Africa for nearly 200 years. Generation after generation has been taught and financed, and it has finally reached the point where musicians feel they have the right to meet with, and advise, heads of state. Africa is in a mess of its own making, all we can do is tell them to come up with concrete solutions to solve their own problems, and then directly finance the solutions. Trickle down doesn't work in Africa or anywhere else. The reason this situation continues to exist is due to the fact that no generation in Africa or elsewhere has learned from previous generations, consequently, the same mistakes are made over and over again. It is about time non Africans stopped thinking of Africa as the white mans burden, and finally realised Africa is the burden of Africa. Africa's problems can only be solved by Africans. Can you imagine Strauss, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc, telling their rulers what to do? Why not let intelligent Africans represent their continent.

It was Martin who had relations with Bono, not Chretian.

People what is wrong with what Bono is trying to do!!!

I mean It's not like it's paris Hilton asking for cupcakes for those poor people in Africa.

As for 200 years of giving to Africa....erm uh..200 years ago the west was stealing people from Africa and turning them into slaves...No one was helping with anything but raping the crap outta of the continent. And they still are.

There's nothing wrong with what Bono is trying to do.

Why is Harper obligated to meet with him? I mean really, why don't you meet with Bono? I bet he's a fun guy, probably pick up the tab too. Pretend you're Avril, he's bound to gall for it.

Poverty is big business for some people. Harper did very well at this conference. Unfortunately, the progress on climate change will be overlooked because those oh-so-cool rockers were snubbed and will now denigrate Harper every chance they get,the big babies. Someone should be aking sir bob how he managed to make $35 million last year. I do not listen to the radio that much anymore, but I don't remember the Boomtown Rats leading the charts anywhere. Maybe they sell loads of discs to the poor in Africa.

Yeah, maybe you want to check his history before you go slamming the guy like that. I mean if you want to compare just how much he's done for poverty against your own efforts, or the efforts of your whole family if you like, then I will be happy to sit as judge and give you an honest opinion.

Just sayin.

I'd be interested in knowing how Bono can advise Canada how to spend her taxpayer's money. What does he know about what we can and can't afford? Throwing money at Africa's problems is a waste of money and time in my estimation. Even a billion dollars worth of band aids will not solve the problems.

Well,I'm just saying too! ARE YOU SAYING THAT NO ONE CAN CRITICIZE unless they are comparable to the person criticized ? So,you will never criticize Bush because you(or your family) have never ran a super power country? Yesterday, bono and bob held a news conference where they said that the prime minister of the country that I live in,blocked aid to Africa. No proof of this given, just a little wink that these 2 grand poobahs were in the know. By extension they are saying that we Canadians are killing poor black Africans by the thousands.,maybe millions. Just like Hitler did to the Jews, except we are a country of racists also. They did this slanderous assault because Harper turned down the obligatory bootlicking photo-op. They are a pair of petulant posers in a petulant frenzy. Check out Geldof's website, you can purchase some moral superiority there and make bobby a little richer.

Sure critisize if it's ernest. Trying to make out that Bob Geldof is scamming money off donation to Live Aid and Band Aid is ****in rediculous. But what's more is that, in your ardent strides to demonize anything contradictory to the Conservative agenda, which should I guess be dubbed the Harper agenda, betrays your integrity.

I suggest that should Harper flipflop on three issues come Monday morning you will be touting the great benefits that flipflopping brings to this country and how under a Liberal government we were sorrely missing.

So if you have some real information on Bob Geldof stealing from the charities he promotes or diverting money from Live Aid or Band Aid, the post it here to back up your claims. Otherwise , quite your crying when I call you on it.

And yes I've controlled a super power nation a couple of times so bite me.

At one time we were told that Bob Geldof had spent all his money organizing Live Aid. Despite all his charity work over the last twenty years, he has amassed a fortune of fifty million pounds. Sorry if I'm a bit sceptical.......

This has nothing to do with a conservative agenda. This has to do with 2 celeb-activists slamming the gov't of Canada, portraying us as a country without a soul, because we did not bow to thier celebrity.Of course, when one does not have a valid argument, and little or no integrity,it is always easy to turn it into a left-right argument, then insult. he may not be scamming at all,it is legal to set yourself up a very highly paid president of a charity. I suggest you go to his website and take a look at what you can purchase to help out bobby. As for your comment"bite me" and "you are taking names", grow up.

I posted this in another thread, but this is probably a more appropriate thread:

When Bono has given away all of his money to the point where he has as much money as I do (which isn't much) then he can lecture me about how to spend my money (through taxes). I think Africa is a very good cause, but hearing it from the mouth of a hypocrite like Bono only hurts the cause. Most reasonable people look at him and roll their eyes. I'm not sure about Geldof, or how much money he has, but I'm pretty sure that Bono is doing pretty well for himself. People like mother Teresa, who actually walk the walk, have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more credibility than Bono.

Absolutely! but then he wouldn't be able to travel the world by private jet preaching at those less well off financially.... IIRC doesn't he also preach about global warming as well.......?

Is Bono really such an expert? How does he plan to solve the countless politically problems that exist all over Africa?
