Maxime Bernier calls out Kevin O'Leary, says Tory leader must speak French

OTTAWA -- Unilingual businessman Kevin O'Leary should rethink his potential run for the Conservative leadership, Maxime Bernier said Tuesday.

The Quebec-based MP and leadership candidate said the Tories will never take power if they are led by someone who can't speak French.

"If (O'Leary) believes he can win an election without speaking a word of French, he is wrong," said Bernier. "And I think the members of the Conservative party are conscious of this.

They are conscious of the need for a leader who can speak in French to Quebecers."

O'Leary, a wealthy financier and TV personality, disagrees. On Monday, he said young Quebecers are almost all bilingual so it's not necessary for a Tory leader to speak French.

He has not officially entered the race, but has been publicly musing about it for months.

O'Leary has promised to try to learn the language by the 2019 election.

Personally, I think oleary would be an excellent critic. People will listen to what he has to say. But I don't think he is leader material. Oleary could play an important role if he rallies for the leadership then endorses someone else.

If Bernier says he's no good, that's enough to place him at the top of my list (if he wasn't there already)

Maxime Bernier, the Hillary Clinton hopeful. Didn't he leave sensitive government documents at his girlfriend (who happened to be associated with Hells Angels) apartment over a weekend.

O'Leary is the guy for the job.

Bernier is a nitwit.

The Conservatives will be confused with new players coming into the fold

Many of the contenders will fall by the wayside once they have to cough up $50,000 by the end of the month. The idea of doling out that amount of cash on a bet - which is what it comes down to - has a way of bringing one's feet back to the ground. By then, many will have a good idea if they have a shot or not.

"Official leadership candidates who have paid the first required $25,000 instalment are required to pay an additional $50,000 by December 31 — a ‘compliance’ deposit — and a final $25,000 on February 24."

It's grim, I'll admit but turning to a reality TV star for your leadership is a really bad idea.
It's not like the substitute drama teacher didn't have his own reality show in a classroom, it just wasn't good enough to go to air, other than the air occupying the void between his ears.

True.

Kevin's in his own league of stupidity though.

Yeah, self-made multi-millionaire.

God, you are inept.

Oh, and before you try and come back with a Trump comparison, save your breath. You'll just embarrass yourself further. O'leary is nothing like Trump.

Sadly, all of the Con candidates seem to share that character trait.

Aren't you a Liberal?

It's grim, I'll admit but turning to a reality TV star for your leadership is a really bad idea.

I've read a lot of O'Leary's views on government policy and I have to say that he will be a very informed candidate and I think an effective leader. He's not divisive like Trump and he can back up his views with knowledge, not rhetoric or talking points. He was a self-made millionaire long before Dragon's Den and Shark Tank.

Canada is going to need a leader after the one trick shiny pony screws up our country.

I happen to think that O'Leary will be a good choice.
