It broke my heart and I actually cried: When I coached a team of 14 year-old girls, one thought she was too fat. No amount of attempt to convince her otherwise worked. She had to drop out eventually because there was no way to keep her on the roster when she was physically sick.

Those who do this to little girls should be dealt with in the strictest sense of the law.

I come from a family with weight issues (who doesn't hey?), and I struggle all the time to try to lose the weight. One thing I've done is REFUSE to tackle it with diets, supplements, weight loss pills, 'cleanses', etc., and the reason is my daughter. I will tackle it with balanced eating. I will tackle it with exercise. I will not let my actions get it into my daughters head that starving, purging, or popping pills is any answer. I've signed her up for swim club, take her to the Y, and bike with her instead. We push push push physical activity and health as being more important than size or a scale reading.

*shrugs* No biggie, I just found it funny. If someone has some good info on why cleansing for months is a good idea, it would be cool to see it shared rather than just slapping a neg rep on a post.
My son has tried to talk me into "cleansing". I tell him to figure out how well that would work for me as a cashier in a Supermarket. lol

The only medical indication for cleansing is in prepping for a colonoscopy or surgery or some other medical procedure that needs the colon to be empty. There's no other reason to do it, it has no demonstrated benefits and there's no evidence that it's necessary, it's just another bit of New Age nonsense.

That'll probably draw a red rep point from the same anonymous coward who gave karrie one; my response would be, blow it out your shorts, moron.

Sometimes I would love to have a little spare weight. It took me a week to drop 12 pounds last year and 3 months to put it back. As unforgiven said, proper diet and exercise are much better than fads like high colonics and weird diets using obscure fruits or something from Lower Slobovia. Mind you, some things imported are nice. I like rooibos tea, for instance, it's tasty.

Oh my... apparently I've crossed an avid purger who'd rather dole out a bad rep with no comment than discuss the issue.

It was a newbie that has been banned for trying to peddle their wares here. Not surprisingly, the same crap that is being discussed here as not being good for you.;-)

Cleansing is for old people because they have the built up poisons of years of living the good life.

It’s also depending where you live, in the cities Toronto and Montreal the poisons and the crap is not a good recipe for longevity.

The so-called health food stores are the purveyors of the new poisons and ironically they are no different than the big bad drug companies that people complain about.

That’s why the government wants to regulate the vitamin industry is because of all the disinformation the health food stores are telling their customers of the cure alls and the scare tactics they use if they don’t buy their snake oils.

The government did studies on the true effects of vitamins and they are coming to the conclusion that most of it ends up in the urine.

Living an active lifestyle is the best way to live.
