It doesn’t sound as crazy as this though. Que the twilight zone theme song. Let your imagination run wild. Enter a world of alternate reality and meet a random Canadian prime minister. Ready?
Here’s our imaginary PM. He’s assembled the media (those who aren’t nasty) to announce plans for a massive triumphal arch opposite the Peace Tower in Ottawa. It will be filled with guns, drones and ammunition. And, he says excitedly, snipers will be stationed on top to shoot down bad guys.

Later, in his office, he glues his latest golden gewgaw onto the wall, distributes the men’s Florsheim dress shoes he insists his cabinet ministers wear, and falls asleep during a meeting. When he wakes up, he threatens to demolish the National Arts Centre if it isn’t renamed after him. Then he announces a cabinet reshuffle, giving Defence, Public Safety and Health to two drunks and one former drug addict.

In the middle of the night, he posts cartoon memes of himself as a superhero, threatening enemies with his very, very big gun.

After some time amid growing alarm, a group of 36 mental health experts issues a statement declaring him unfit. Objectively observable signs of cognitive decline have worsened, they say, and warrant “disqualification from office.”

But nobody moves a muscle to get rid of him.

The trade and tariff war between the United States and Canada has one betting market buzzing over Mark Carney’s chances at being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

On Monday morning, U.S.-based prediction market Kalshi briefly listed the prime minister as the favourite with about a 14% chance at winning the award. But by Wednesday morning, his odds have dropped to about 5%.

Carney currently trails several organizations and individuals including Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms, Doctors Without Borders, and Ukrainian children’s rights activist Mykola Kuleba.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham was in disbelief that Carney would even appear on the shortlist of Kalshi’s candidates.

‘Picked a fight with Trump’
“His own country is under massive economic strain, but he’s a Nobel contender because he picked a fight with Trump,” she wrote on X. “Astounding.”

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has lobbied for the honour and has been nominated by several Republican lawmakers in the past, has fallen to a 2% chance, dragged down over the Iran war.

Over at cryptocurrency-based prediction market Polymarket, Carney is nowhere to be found on its Nobel Peace Price leaderboard.

No evidence PM on shortlist
In either event, there is no evidence that Carney is even on the shortlist for the honour, which is set to be awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee on Oct. 9.

Carney, who took over the Liberal Party after Justin Trudeau stepped down as prime minister last year, gained international attention immediately for fighting back against Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods despite a free trade deal — the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement — in place.

Supporters have cited his January speech in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum where he emphasized the end of the rules-based international order while also outlining how Canada is shifting its economy and building strategic partnerships with middle powers.

In recent weeks, Carney has also courted the European Union to diversify the Canadian economy and vowed to create a deeper alliance with the 27 member states.

Critics have come after the prime minister for his handling of the trade crisis and failed negotiations with the U.S.

“With pressure mounting from Washington, Brussels and Beijing, Canada cannot afford managed decline,” Conservative MP Shuv Majumdar recently wrote on X. “Build at home, unleash our economy, and save Canadians money.”

Edmonton resident arrested for uttering death threats against PM Mark Carney: RCMP
'People should not assume they can make threats online without consequences. When online comments cross the line into criminal conduct, police will investigate and take appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable'

Police have arrested and charged an Edmonton man accused of threatening to kill Prime Minister Mark Carney, say RCMP.

On Sept. 4, an investigation was launched into a user of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that allegedly posted threats targeting Carney, said the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in a Thursday media release.

Five days later, INSET arrested and charged Dwight Peter MacIntyre, 44, of Edmonton with uttering a threat against Carney.

“People should not assume they can make threats online without consequences. When online comments cross the line into criminal conduct, police will investigate and take appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable,” said Supt. Matt Johnson, officer in charge of national security with RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region in a release.

“Criminal online actions have real-world consequences, regardless of whether they are made behind a screen.”

Police didn’t confirm where the arrest took place, but in Thursday’s media release, RCMP thanked both the Edmonton Police Service and Alberta RCMP’s Parkland detachment for the support in the investigation, which remains ongoing.

RCMP warned that this is a “time for increased vigilance” due to the security environment that public figures like world leaders continue to evolve both within Canada and around the world.

MacIntyre is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Nov. 25.

What peace has Carney ever done? Thankfully his chances are only 14% but one never knows now-a-days. Stupidity is celebrated. This is the same as when Obama got the peace prize when he won the election. He hadn't even been in office long for heaven's sake & he got it simply because he was BLACK!! The prize doesn't mean anything any more. You don't actually have to DO anything to win it & the Million that comes with it. It's incredible!!

Nobody is saying much about the newest threat to confederation . Party Québécois has stolen the election and will hold sovereignty referendum. The incumbent party were shut out , and conservatives hold the balance of power winning their first Quebec seats since 1931 .

I was just mentally comparing it between all the op/ed pieces from media in Ontario about AB but very little about Quebec…

With a minority government, I doubt that they will get support for a referendum.
