And as a 'regular white guy', if your dad were Asian, would you find it fair to get pulled over everytime a cop runs your plates because you didn't come out looking Asian enough?

I agree, I probably would not like it and in most cases I probably would not be pulled over. But police officers have to work on instinct a lot of the time and unless this officer has a history of racial profiling I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

I PERSONALLY would not make a mountain out of a molehill, but that would be me.

Something sounds fishy to me, he was pulled over because of his name? How is that a reason to be pulled over? Do they have their names on the plate or something. This just sounds odd to me.

Um, license plate numbers can be run through the database and up pops a name, address, phone number, etc.

As a 'regular black guy', what should this gentleman's name be?

Guess what? There's black people who have Irish and Scottish last names too.... did that ever occurred to these idiots?

And having information that they regularly profile people based on their race/skin color but don't normally put that down in writing says a lot.

Was he speeding or driving recklessly or did they just pull him over because he was simply black?

Chucking a cigarette butt out the window seems to be a pretty poor excuse, especially if they can't prove someone in the car smokes (ie: can cough up a pack of smokes somewhere in the car)

I wonder how sympathetic this fellow would be if he had gotten in a car accident instead? It's not like he had any car insurance, and driving without it is illegal after all.

Racial profiling or no racial profiling, what pisses me off is that he doesn't seem to care that he was driving around without car insurance. With the amount of uninsured drivers on the road, is it any wonder why car insurance is so expensive for the people that actually have car insurance?

.....and speaking of expensive (Commercial) insurance....I know many Truckers
that are from the west, that avoid Quebec whenever possible due to the Cash
-Cow that out'a province Commercial Interjurasdictional (IRP) plates seem
to be for Quebec.

In the close to six years I spent as a Safety Supervisor/Compliance Officer for
an International Transport Company, I've seen some real dozies come out of
Quebec's Enforcement Officers.

Tickets in obscurely worded French that even French Speaks on the Prairies
can't intemperate on Traffic Citations that are completely bogus...like fines
for 5th Wheel RV's or Travel Trailers being too wide (when they clearly are not,
and have CVSA decals on them), or fines for not having Reflective Safety
Triangles on a Commercial Vehicle, when the Unit does indeed have them
but the operator doesn't know what is being asked of him (& proof that the
Triangles being present being on the current & valid Vehicle Safety Inspection
decal on the side of the truck...which wouldn't pass without those triangles, etc...).

I'm not sure what kind of profiling that would be....but it's clearly profiling of
some type.
