Ever see one of these? We saw a few of these on Ile d'Orleans, Quebec a few weeks ago.
Looks like a do-it-yourself from prefab pieces. Some we saw had only the center section.
M&M's is gateway processed foods, disguising themselves as a 'meat shop'. I want to scream when I hear friends say they went to the butchers, when where they really went is M&M's.
Are you saying their meat is unhealthy or something?
M&M's is a frozen foods store.
Not all of it, but a great lot of it, yes. It's one of the least cost effective and least healthy ways to buy meat for a family.
M&M isn't a butcher.... Karrie helped me with chicken recipes because I am to the point of not liking the added salt in M&M. We know someone fairly high up in the company as their HO is here in the KW area and we have been whining and crying to him about the sodium in the chicken. His response is that they HAVE cut down the amount of sodium in the chicken but when they cut it down further they lost their client base. I don't know if that is true. What I do know is that once the chicken is left in my freezer for a bit it incurs freezer burn fairly fast and tastes gross. If M&Ms don't cut meat and all they do is take cuts, wrap it and freeze it, it ain't a butcher shop. A butcher shop is the next step after the abattoir and takes sides, whole carcasses, etc. and cuts, grinds, and adds spices and otherwise processes meat (including wrapping and selling).

I find their chicken prices good actually compared to the boneless, skinless, grain-fed air cooled that I now buy. However I can eat a whole M&M chicken breast whereas the grocery store ones will feed me twice so in the long run might prove cheaper.
Karrie: I am getting better at cooking them. At first I cooked way too long and they were dry and gross. Now I marinate them in oil, wine and Mrs. Dash non salt spices for at least four hours, throw them in the oven for about a half hour and they taste good. Thanks for the coaching.![]()
Buying frozen meat from a company the size of M&Ms must be fairly safe. Surely if they had a health problem we'd all know about it. With four hundred and thirty odd stores in Canada they sure as hell wouldn't want any bad publicity from selling tainted meat. Since we haven't heard about any problems, they must be doing a good job.
me too, just because freezer bags allow me to easily flip them so the marinade reaches all parts of the breast. I won't eat dark meat it tastes too gamey for me.I use freezer bag as they are large when bulk marinating chicken legs.

I said processed, not tainted. The salt, sugar, and preservative levels in their prepared foods are insane. It's why they taste good, why they keep well, and why people keep buying them. It doesn't make it 'good for you'.
Levels of salt, sugar, and preservatives are insane? According to whom? Which preservatives? What do you know about preservatives. I just don't believe these levels are as "insane", as you say, or they wouldn't be selling the stuff.

If I hadn't been traveling with my parents on my trip to the U of R convocation ceremonies Ron, I'd have called you up while I was in town. Now, I'll HAVE to if you know where to get good Ukrainian sausage![]()
I'm sure the levels aren't insane, but as a rule it's best to stay away from as much in the way of additives and preservatives as possible. Cooking your own, from unprocessed "raw materials", is the best way to go, I think.
Not that I don't buy processed food, but I try to be aware just how much of it I'm buying and I try to limit it.
