With over 73 years to its name and no signs of stopping, the Ukrainian Co-op has long been one of
Regina’s commercial and cultural landmarks. The co-op has come a long way since its founding in
1936, with three moves and four expansions, but has retained its relationship with the community
along with consistent annual profits.

The store offers a wide range of specialty meats, with over 100 types of sausage.

I will have to pass that along to my sister, although she tends to love the patisseries more than the sausage shops. lol.

You and me both. I've had heart surgery so I am particularly aware of what I'm eating. When I had the heart attack my cholesterol was very low....who knows?

Cholesterol levels are overrated. Stress levels and activity levels are much better indicators of health than some arbitrary number. (says the stressed out, sedentary housewife, so there).

Would never have thought of you as sedentary. I, on the other hand, have increasing trouble pushing back from the table....any table..

I didn't used to be so bad. Since this last move, it's like all my joints fused. It's no easy task getting moving again.

A meat shop? What the hell is a meat shop? I buy sides for $2.10 an lb. No urban franchise can compare to the pasture franchise in quality or price.

The last time we moved, we decided, that we would simply call the movers and sit back and watch. We had all the furniture identified with taped on notes as to which room in the new place each piece would go. The rooms in the new house were all identified. We should have just left for the day but we just had to hang around and "help". The movers were four young, strong, men and the last thing they needed was us two struggling around in the way....gathering aches and pains like we said we wouldn't do:roll:

Do you have the sausage of the month card? I'm a member of course. To become a member you have to prove you are of Ukrainian heritage.

We had movers. I think it must be the change in climate that's the issue.

Petros. What the hell is the average guy going to do with a side of beef?? Most of us don't have storage space for that much beef. I have a 12 cubic foot freezer and another 7 cubic feet of freezer in the fridge and there is no way I could store even a hind quarter. We do eat other things.
"Urban franchise"?? I introduced this topic and I never once suggested that M&M would serve anything but the odd specialty items. If you want six identical steaks that will barbeque to medium rare and be super tender, M&M might be the place to try. Meanwhile, go out to the garage and put your front feet on your side of beef and growl at anyone who comes close...

Finding people that will go splits on a side of beef, pig and such is a problem.

How can you afford not to? 300+lbs of beef for $650ish is a no brainer when one steak costs $10 at the supermarket.

"What's for supper tonight? Beef again???"

"Yeah, we've got to empty that freezer." :p

My eating goes in moods and trends. I'd hate to eat lots of one certain thing just because I have to get my money's worth.

so price a quarter. Trust me, you're not the only one who wants to split and doesn't have anyone to go in with. They'll be able to sell it.

Indeed, a side can be parted out in "meat packs" to friends who can afford (or can't afford not to) buy 30-40lbs for $100

Be great if all we ate was beef but we eat chicken and fish more than we do beef and it is cheaper and better for us and what kind of beef can we get 30 or 40 pounds of for a hundred dollars?

Well, around here the beef you can get for that price is the same beef as you'd get after it's been trucked down the highway, run through a slaughter yard, and butchered by ex-cons. Only, minus all the stresses to the animal, and unskilled butchery, and the middle men lining their pockets. Most farmers are more than happy to sell locally rather than have to truck their cattle.

If I feel like a decent steak, M&M's will do nicely.

When I feel like a special steak, we have a couple of local butchers here who are really good.

The thing I don't like about cut-and-wrapped meat in the freezer is that I can't see it before thawing and unwrapping. I like seeing cuts of meat, choosing the size, thickness, marbling, etc. that I want from a selection of offerings.

Sure, I'll probably pay more for that, but that's my preference.

By the way, if you want a really good beef roast, the Bottom Blade roast at Costco is superb.

And one of the best products at M&M's? Their pre-cooked Pot Roast, which comes on sale occasionally.

.

So talk to your butcher about how you like it packed. My sister's butcher vacuum packs.
