No, because I merely hire a politician (via my vote) to do a job I don't have time to do. ;)

Don't we do the same thing when we watch athletes on tv or pay for tickets to go see them perform live?

If there is no audience to watch them, there's no money.

In a stretch of the meaning, we hire them as well.

Just look at what happened to Golf with Tiger Woods.... when he doesn't play, the game suffers from lack of viewers & interest..... when he does something wrong, like what recently happened with his personal life, not only did viewers have a lot to say and lost interest (or even gained interest) but sponsors and others tied to the game and him were affected as well.

Well then I suppose I vote on my opinion of professional sports as well.... with my lack of viewership or money spent on tickets. So, perhaps more apt is, I don't vote, so I don't bitch... lol,

The first players I remember grunting a lot were John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors. They always seemed to be working their asses off while Bjorn Borg cooly played them like fiddles. Martina Navratilova ushered in the female grunt.

I remember monica seles being the first one, and I am referring to the actual fake sounding high
volume grunt, and she did it with every stroke.

Martina didn't ever sound like that, but of course there has to be some sort of breathing noise after
a stroke, that is normal, and martina also talked to herself when she wasn't playing
well, scolding herself, but nothing like yelling and screaming at all.

''It is dissapointing reading about how the males view the female tennis players, and it seems they
really don't know much about the game itself, just looking at body parts, clothing, etc.''

Don't know that your comment has any actual basis. I am a long standing fan of womens pro tennis and am a lifetime member of wtaforums.com. Most of the comments about the players looks acutally come from female fans. And, indeed, most of the fans (both male & female) are very knowledgeable about womens pro tennis.

not some of the comments on this board, and if you don't do that, then you don't do that, good for you.

Today, some people (mostly those who are not WTA fans) complain about female players and their loud grunts. Years ago those same critics used to complain that womens tennis was sissy stuff such as this:

YouTube - ‪Rosie Casals vs Francoise Durr Long Beach 1972‬‏

Francoise Durr more than anyone else was criticized years ago for her cream puff serves and volleys. Is this what some of you prefer?

The quality of the women's tennis has never been better, excellent athletic women, but that tacky and
irritating screaming has come into the game in recent years, obviously a tactic to throw off the
opponant.
They take away from their quality of play, by screaming, one doesn't flatter the other.

Shemales is a pretty derogatory term, YukonJack.

Also, the normal people that watch men and woman play tennis would be called tennis fans. I happen to be amongst that group.

So are the words and terms 'redneck, 'racist', 'extremist', 'bigot', 'religious nut', etc.

Also, I may have missed it, but I can't recall you chiding those who used the same word, or implication of same, describing Ann Coulter.

And there are those consider those who like Professional Wrestling less than normal.

To each his own.

Well then, don't watch it.

You've shown that the reason you watch it is for sex appeal, which means that you don't watch it for the sport. Stick to soft core porn, then.

This is like people complaining about the yelling in curling.

 good grief.. if watching a pretty girl is no different than watching porn.. what's left.

But, it's true, i generally don't watch women's sports.. Olympics excepted. And especially Tennis, where there is no comparison between a grueling 5 set match between 2 great players and what the women's side serves up.

The difference between Curling and Golf is that in Curling all of the screaming comes after the stone has been thrown and it will have no effect on how the opponent responds to it.

With Tennis the grunt is, in many cases, meant to disrupt the concentration of the opponent.. which is not sporting. It is comparable to coughing while an opponent is putting in Golf.

I frankly find screaming in Curling obnoxious as well, which is probably why i only watch the Gold Medal Game of the Olympics if Canada (men or women) are involved. ;)

Yes, we must mention that there are women who 'do not' scream and grunt' while playing, so all respect
to them.

I don't ever compare women's sports to men's sports, that isn't fair at all, and if one doesn't like
women's sports so be it, but the quality of tennis by the women is very high, as well as golf and
other sports as well. They are women, they don't have the muscular definition of the men and can't
be expected to match them (parden the pun).

I don't watch women's ice hockey, although all of my daughters played it, (at the highest level) for
years, they were fine hockey players, but never as strong as men.
I was proud of their abilities, and they loved to play, but as soon as they finished playing, as
older teenagers, I didn't continue to watch the women, I like men's hockey at the highest level,
and thats about it for me.

They could defeat the boys teams till about the age of 14/15, then the difference in strength prevented
any further play.
They could 'however' compete with males in non contact hockey after that, and were very competetive,
and held their own.

The skating was the key.

My oldest daughter played in a men's hockey league, along with her dad, in campbell river, they even
had a picture and write up in the paper, as it was interesting to see them in a game together, and
very enjoyable. She was a good player on that team, non contact, and she was such a great skater
that she could manage herself in the game just fine.

womens sports at the highest level must be appreciated, they have come to the top of the heap, just
like the men, and the years and years of hard work and improvement, (and money) and dedication that
was put into the sport, (just like the men) brought them to the highest level.

It is degrading to read and hear men talk about the tennis players as though they are reading a playboy
magazine, and not know how to realize and respect their abilities, and how hard it was for them to reach their
goals, and those women are highly competetive, and couldn't care less about those particular men,( who
haven't a clue,) as they are battling in their sport as hard as any men do, and the men tennis players,
and other men athletes, would 'ALL' understand that.

Just stop the screaming.

Well if s/he wasn't a redneck, racist, extremist bigot, religious nut, no one would have to say those dirty words.
Except for Jeff Foxworthy.
