How about carbonating milk products and tooth paste?

ha ha ha ha ha - good one!

Actually, I too have heard that coal can be quite clean burning, especially the coal found in - wait for it - Alberta. With the high tech scrubbers, emissions can be reduced considerably and the coal found in Alberta is somehow different than say the US where it is much "dirtier". I can not, for the life of me remember why that is right now, but apparently there are different "classes" of coal and Alberta has the better one.

"Clean coal" is anything but. Scrubbing the emissions removes some of the sulphates but it doesn't remove the CO2 which is becoming the big issue now and coal puts a lot of other nasty stuff into the air and water around us like mercury, lead, arsenic and heavy metals.

Anthracite coal is older and more pure with less water and is cleaner burning, but it's all relative. Coal is a 19th century fuel, it's long past it's due date.

Carbon sesquestration is decades down the road so we should be phasing out coal use now.
