...and this has what to do with long hair in a Texas kindergarten? Some of the stuff kids wear to school is downright disgusting or more suitable for more mature audiences. Long hair? That's a tad petty ... unless it's complete control and domination they want.
You appear to be directing your comment at me. Maybe try reading some of the other posts and see what fat asses have to do with any of this or what kids in or outside of kindergarten have to do with it in other posts and all the other stuff being talked about. If you don't like a post off topic - draw it back to the topic with a comment that is on topic.

Actually, I thought this thread has been staying pretty much on topic. Like any other discussion, it has poked around at various possible reasons for the rule and some long term implications of it...everything from religious beliefs being a possible background reason to some comparisons of early school influences and even a quick look at BC and how similar situations might be handled.

I think we even managed to avoid a politicial left/right discussion...Overall, I'd give it a possible "8" on a scale of 1-10 for maintaining "topic integrity."

And, I would agree with Van Isle that the parents of the child in question might want to consider simply following the rules, although it sounds as if they're going to go the "get the rules changed" route. Might cost them a bit in legal fees but I guess they think it's worth the time and trouble to do it.

Assumptions? If I was directing a comment at you, I would have used your name or quoted you.

I think I'd be mentioning the issue to the proper gov't authorities and ask them where in the Constitution or its amendments does it say that freedom of expression doesn't apply to length of hair.
