Like a true Harvard professor Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff put the Harper Conservatives on notice and told them to do it right this time or face the consequences.

Three book reports outlining the progress of Stephen Harper in March, June, December and make those confidence reports which means if Harper decides that it’s business as usual then the governments falls.

After the last Novembers economic statement Conservatives found out what a minority government really means.

The snotty nosed Prime Minister of Canada was crying like a little girl to the Governor General to close parlement because the kitchen was getting too hot so she pulled the plug and Harper the little girl grew up and became a man.

The Conservatives presented a Liberal budget yesterday and Michael Ignatieff liked what he saw, he just wants the reports so everyone will know the full facts.

Accountability, I think that’s what Harper ran on originally.

This thread is actually pretty darn funny! How do these "report cards" every
four months put the Harper Conservatives on notice at all??? The Liberal Party
is broke and can't afford an election any time soon. Jack Layton's tirade against
Michael Ignatieff and the Liberal party in general show the "notice" that the Harper
Conservatives have been put on. That condition changes exactly nothing at all...
Thanks for the laugh though. I needed it.

P.S. I'm not very impressed with this budget either, but applauding Mr. Ignatieff
for this 'report card' thing is really silly at this point. Get him out fund raising and if
he does that VERY well, praise him for that. Nothing will change until that happens.

It will be a long time before the liberals have the funds to run a campaign in an election.

Iggy has caged a rabid dog. Harper has expended his political capital of a snap election and perogue. His anti Coalition rhetoric of "those socialists & separatists" will ensure that they will not return his calls for a while. 143 seats is not 155. Harper needs 12 to get anything passed. Iggy is exacting a price of accountability Cons have accepted...with their own spin of "we ARE accountable (really?) Harper now stays on as PM through the PERMISSION od the House, not its confidence. And Jack? He finally got a well deserved boot in the rear for bringing down Paul Martin. Harper is locked into FOUR YEARS of PROBATION. Humble pie looks good on him!

Good Day to you Socrates!!! If Harpers hands are tied continually, he'll
just make any vote of any significance a confidence vote and we all know
what will happen with the Liberal vote for the next couple of years until the
Liberals Bank account is about $20,000,000.00 to the positive. So how is this
being "Caged?" Confidence vote = Liberal capitulation in a vote. 8O

Hey good evening Ron, If Harpers math continues to be deceiving it won’t take long for big business and other special interest groups to put their doe on the liberals making contributions that will mach or exceed the $20,000,000.00 you are talking.

Iggy did put the Harper Conservatives on probation to be accountable or you are gona fall. The people are closely watching a man who stood before them 12 weeks ego and told them "NO DEFICITS" and to day they are throwing a number of $84Billion over 5 years, does anyone believe that at the end of 5 years the number will stay the same? Of course not!!!! So Canada is faced with unthinkable debt and the young generation will pay for all of it. What is really sad is that the younger generation may not have a pension plan left if the country goes deep deep in the red ink.

That can't happen anymore though Socrates. Jean Cretien made sure
of that as his parting gift (with love) to Paul Martin. Maximum donation
is now $1,100.00 and big business (just not most of the rest of us) will
profit quite nicely from this Budget a couple of days ago. The Liberals
would need about 18,200 big business's to donate $1,100.00 each and
for many private citizens to dig deep too.

Long & short though...the Liberals can't not (intentional double negative)
support the Conservatives on a confidence vote until they can afford to
fund an election. This Ignateiff isn't a dumb guy and shouldn't be beaten
up for recognizing the position he's been put in. It's a tough nut he'll have
to continually swallow.

The Budget Harper put out has soooooo many stings attached to most
funds that a very large amount of that $$$$ will just not be able to be
collected on, so though it's a p*ss-poor stimulus package, the deficit
may be way lower than predicted. FYI...I don't like this Budget either.

A really sad thing about our national pension plan is that it's based on
the population always being shaped like a pyramid with a wide base. By
the time the Baby Boomer generation is dead and gone, Canada's youth
won't have anything left in the pension pot anyway.

Here's the future of the Canadian Pension Plan. Not a very stable
looking pyramid. Harper may not be in your fan club, but he didn't
single handedly reduce the birth rate in Canada since the late '60's.
We either need to breed like rabbits or open the floodgates to new
immigration, or both.

Sorry....I know this is a bit off topic, but it's out'a the way now and we
can get back to the thread....

Ron, if I am not mistaken the MP's must repay a loan within a certain amount of time.

This however does NOT apply to the party.. Hence if the Liberal party was to get a loan they could drag it out as long as they want as long as the terms are legals.

Keeping that in mind I think Ignatieff would not wait long if he had the opportunity to get a Majority and change the law back to rebuild the political stability of his and other parties that will soon follow due to leadership requirements.

That said Obama has shown a good strategy to build up political funding at $5.00 a shot. Using tools such as Facebook and Paypal it was possible for him to accumulate millions weekly quickly..

Of course you still have limits in Canada and finding ways around those might prove challenging. Names must appear and limits are still in place. All political parties realize these limits will eventually have to end and even Harper ( or successor ) would be looking at changing these rules.

As for the pension plans, nothing will change till we make Canada more attractive to have children..

Obama has established a method. Assume all Parties take it to heart. Looking
at the track record (recent) as to which party is able to get its supporters to
pony up...this could be very lopsided, but it is a path for all to try.

With the Liberal Party just going through an election with (please correct me
if I'm wrong) the second lowest approval rating in their history, and then
turfing their leader to replace him with someone who's been on the job for
two months....if you where a creditor....how confident would you be spotting
this party multi-millions of dollars in this economic down turn and still expect
a return with interest in a timely manner??? 8O

OOoooo..... yes, big bad Iggy Pop sure knows how to lay the smack down on the Conservatives..... yeah, watch out, he's on fire!

He demands something that the Conservatives were already planning to do in the first place and was sorta manditory..... way to strike a deal Iggy..... that's using your university noggin.

Harper grew up to be a man?

The hell he did..... I give him another two weeks and we'll be back to the same old crap. Harper can still hold true to this crap of a budget and still go about his mockery of the government..... so long as he sticks to the budget, they can't vote him down on those "Report Cards" ~ Therefore, nothing has changed.

Bravo.

Soc, take a look around. Every country that is trying to stimulate the economy is going in the red. Your beloved libs would be doing the same if they were in power, so you are spewing babble..

If every country is following a left wing agenda when times get tough.

I guess that means the right wing agenda is bankrupt then?
