There have been changes for sure. In my dad's parish, there is a priest who was divorced before he got the "calling". In the Greek Catholic Church, priests can be married; we have one in Kelowna who has a wife and kids. I personally do not know why priests can't marry in the RCC - it makes no sense to me. Maybe way back when..... Doesn't seem to be an issue with other religions.....


And finally, I do not see why a woman cannot be ordained a priest either especially since there is a shortage of priests. Married + women = more priests.

John Paul 2 made a pronouncement on the issue of woman priests 20 years ago when he stated that it was not in the Church's charter to change what God had instituted. Specifically referring the fact that Christ had not made any women His apostles. He certainly had women disciples who played an important role in His earthly ministry.

Women play important administrative roles in the Holy See in today's Church. Also in lay parish councils, in missions and, communications. Consecrated sisters have leadership roles in education, medicine, charity, contemplative and, oblate work. The Church has always acknowledged the feminine genius and virtues, and the limitations of masculine character.

It realizes, however, what the rest of the world seems to have forgotten. That men and women have unique and complementary roles in all aspect of family, institutions and society. That is much different than homosexual culture where everything of gender roles is hopelessly confused, chaotic and gratuitous.

The dearth of priests is overstated. The severe drop in vocations began after Vatican 2 when the insipid Novus Ordo Mass replaced the magnificent Tridentine Latin Mass. That Protestanized the Mass and reduced the priest's role from one of surrogate of Christ to one of congregational revivalist. At the same time the pastoral function was reduced from spiritual director to social worker.

Once the Church gets back to its roots, the (male) priests will return in adequate numbers. As will the parishioners who now appear only on Christmas, Easter, weddings and funerals.

There has never been a female Catholic priest, or Pope (despite gnostic fables) or, deacons. And its likely there never will be. A Pope who implements one would incite a massive schism in the Church. It is also very unlikely that priestly celibacy will be abandoned in the Latin Church, even though is deemed to be a mutable Church Law and not a Divine Law.

Romans I. You should read. Paul's epistles are a direct revelation of Christ. Given to him when he was thrown from his mount on the road to Damascus.

And you seem to have a double standard Cliffy. You accept the laws of Cliffyanity as paramount and incontestable. Those of moral relativism, radical individualism, atheistic humanism.. which of course means there are no rules at all. But which forms it own moral code and its own social structures and laws.

This is where the persecution of religious expression with respect to homosexuality is leading us.

Israel Felau, a top Australian Rugby Union player, was banned yesterday from representing Australia in the Rugby Union World Cup this year and has had his contract terminated by his professional team in Australia for expressing the opinion that the practice of homosexuaity will lead those individuals to hell without repentance on their part.

Folau is an Evangelical Christian who was expressing the literal Biblical proscriptions of sodomy that have been in the Christian catechis.. Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant.. for 2 millennia. Homosexuality in all is defined as intrinsically disordered in orientation, gravely sinful in practice, and a manifest social evil. It is a mortal sin; that is those that put a person’s salvation in imminent jeopardy without repentance and redemption. It is also one that is within the all persons capability and responsibility to resist.

It is a complete capitulation by Rugby Australia to the pc zeitgeist that has a choke hold on the approved opinions of athletes; even those founded of devout religious belief. There is no separation here between church and sport in the Rugby Football Union. The dictate is to conform to the most transient and temporal of approved opinion; those founded on the modern idolatry of moral relativism, radical individualism, atheistic humanism. At one time there was wall between politics and sports. Religious and political opinions were held as something that could be debated in the public arena and not on the field of play.

I’m hoping for some kind of coordinated response by the players. One player has used social media to express support for Folau and has been called before the disciplinary board of the RFU and several active Rugby Union players twittered their approval. I think a mass resignation from the Australian national team would be appropriate, or, a fan or sponsor boycott. But given the tyranical use of sanctions i think the most likely outcome they will bow to intimidation and do nothing for religious persecution.

Political Correctness is a paper tiger. It panders to the most superficial of human aspirations and allies itself the culture of victimhood that divides society against itself. It relies on fear of ostracism and assumes a hegemony of ‘enlightened’ accepted thought. Indeed it relies on malleable institutional orthodoxy characterized by rigid conformity to impose a chilling unanimity. Those are found in today’s media, education, politics. It bypasses those whose whole exegis is based on moral absolutes, natural order, divine law. In essence those of faith.

There is no room for Christ in Rugby Union. That is the message this sends loud and clear. But what if Israel is right. Suppose the wafer thin amorality of political correctness are pure trickery and cowed coercion. Who really has the best interest of those lost in the dark, lonely, degenerate recesses of homosexuality at heart. Those who say ‘give up and go to hell’ or those who say ‘fight and save yourself’. Who really represents compassion and virtue.

Does anyone really believe this conceit of political correctness is going offers any kind of future. That it is not a sign of a culture careening towards a cliff edge of disorder, disaster and social disintegration..
