I actually think Zapparella does a much better cover of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks". They sound way better than Led Zeppelin. Far better musicians.

Led Zeppelin When The Levee Breaks by Zepparella - YouTube

Kansas Joe McCoy's song was about the Great Mississippi Flood. Mississippi as we all now know is the only state in the United States that has a lower GDP than the whole nation of Britain. A Fact!

I like any music that has substance to it. Melodic, well written. Zeppelin had some good stuff. Some metal is also done well. I'm a jazz fan at heart though.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong... I like Led Zeppelin. They were a fantastic cover band... one of the greatest.

They just copied the Zeppelin version. Whereas Zeppelin reinterpreted the Joe McCoy version. And if Petros is really a guitar player he'd know the old band adage: "Never do a cover of a cover."

Oh God I went through a lot of music in different formats over the years.
Except for LZ and a couple of others i thought heavy metal came from
the shallow end of the gene pool myself. Yes influences come from a
lot of different styles as it should be, but you can't improve on some of
the early stuff cause it was there first and sparked the
its like people who were there and met Jesus would have a totally different
story and feeling than those who talk about him centuries later.
On radio I went through the rock era, country, pop and the blues and it all
has its place but trying to compare music which is a living thing in itself is
difficult cause we all got on the consciousness bus at a different stop in a
different time and its what you personally relate too. I started playing music
on radio in the mid sixties through into the nineties and I liked most of it and
respected my audience regardless of age but I do admit there ain't much to
heavy metal for the most part with some exceptions. Oh ya I did like the
Electric Prunes anybody remember them?

Everybody covers The Animals cover of House of teh Rising Sun though. The original--at least the oldest version I've heard, ("Rising SUn Blues") was closer to bluegrass than blues. Leadbelly did a version too.

people getting all mad about a guitar riff

It appears as if Russia is now actively invading the Ukraine, and NATO will be establishing new bases in eastern Europe. ISIS is embarking on a campaign of enslavement and barbarity, and are hacking people's heads off to take selfies with. Boko Harum--they of the schoolgirl stealing notoriety--have declared a caliphate in Nigeria. There's a big Ebola outbreak in Africa. In Britain, it turns out authorities ignored the pleas of children, which allowed Paakistani Muslims to rape, beat and traffic some 1400 girls with impunity for 16 years.

So yeah...guitar riffs.

Led Zep is the worst for ripping off the blues giants of days gone by. Rolling Stones a close second, Sabbath in third. All Brits.

The Stones actually gave credit to those they ripped off unlike Led Zeppelin. That has cost them a fair amount of money over the years.

As for the story, its a decent riff but far from my favourite.

Most of Led Zeppelins music are rips from other musicians. They should be known as a great cover band but nothing more.

There is a pretty big difference between ripping a song off and covering it. Taking elements from other peoples songs, then adding your own little thing to it isnt a cover.
