It is only 8:30 PM PST and the California polls are now closed. McCain just conceded the election and told his campaign he has already called and congratulated Barak Obama. I also saw a shot of the crowd in Grant park in Chicago and it panned on Jesse Jackson who was crying with joy. This is a historic moment in American history and the first Black President has now been elected. Regardless of which candiate won history was going to be made. But to think that the vote was allowed to women early in the twentieth century and in many states Blacks were not allowed to vote until 1963. The nation has made some great strides and now I just hope we as a people can unite and support our new President. Now the healing and repair can begin.

Couple of interesting proposition look like they'll pass. Michigan look like it'll pass a proposition in favor of Medical Marijuana and Massachusetts looks to pass one on Decriminalizing Marijuana.

Anyone see a change coming?

I sit here amazed... and chastened. I really thought the Republicans would find a way to steal this.

I'm awed to witness this kind of history in the making.

The USA is so heavy handed in its "war on drugs" which receives huge funding...and zero
tolerance on so many fronts on this topic...it will be interesting. Enjoy the ride!

Presidents are more than people who fight for tax issues or same sex marriage bans, or whatever else irrelevant they might be involved with. They are people who bring hope, vision and direction.

"New Mexico is now Obama's.....last time it went to Bush."

NM has proportionately the USA's largest Hispanic population. They made up the difference in the voting. Ditto for Florida especially in the largely Puerto Rican areas of Central Florida.

The population base is changing significantly and this bodes well for the Democrats and the USA.

Well it's finally over. Now comes the hard part. How long before the media darling becomes the media target? As Colpy mentioned; expectations are so high he will never measure up.
1st order of business: wrapping his head around a how to control and lower a trillion dollar deficit! Iraq is not first.

If anyone has been following john king and the other cnn election experts for the past few
weeks, the number that has been reached by Obama is pretty close to what they expected
and maybe 'slightly' lower for the senate.

I don't expect Obama, or the people who supported him to think they will reach their goals,
quickly, he has told them 'many many' times, some of their goals will be reached in 1 term,
and others won't, and he has expressed how important it is for 'them' (the people) to do their
part, as he has made it clear that he will be putting forward plans that include the responsibility of 'people' to be responsible, eg. if college hopefuls are expecting the financial
help he has promised, they will have to serve the military in some way, eg. peace corp. etc..
or other volunteer work around the world, with respect to the military, while not having to be
part of the military, and other volunteer work as well. No 'free' handouts, give and take.

He looked tired tonight, but resigned to the fact that he has reached his first goal, but made
it clear that it is onward from here, and the work has just begun.

I was impressed with his acceptance speech, he was a little quieter, a little more presidential,
and, I can't wait for the rest of the world to join him, to make this world a better place.

Congratulations to Barack Obama, you are one of a kind, a beautiful man, and will be a great
leader, and a great president.

My reflection on this election:

For me this wasn't a joyous evening..more of a sad reflection on the last administration. I think this election was more about getting rid of them than it was really expecting miracles from Obama. I believe people realize they've been hoodwinked by Bush and Cheney etal. They've watched them justify torture, attack personal privacy rights, look for excuses to surpass constitution rights, use religion to divide people, unravel foreign goodwill, start a war based on baloney, attack gays - pro choice - stemcell research to appease a small segment of swing voters, character assassinate anyone in their way including McCain in 2000 and Kerry in 2004, watch texas oilmen and haliburton acquire massive wealth through oil and war, double the national debt, ignore a catastrophe in New Orleans ...

People are tired of it. Obama was in the right place at the right time. He isn't just selling tax policy change or Joe The Plumber semantics; he's selling a different style of leadership. One that respects people. In the end that's what most people want; someone who can use common sense and have their interest at heart, no matter if it works or not.

What K said above....

Finally after 8 years, the Americans will be ruled by a smart man. A majority of Americans have finally figured out that when you elect an idiot and you get idiocracy.

I expect the US will experience radical change regarding energy, foreign policy... A new dawn after so many years of darkness.

Joe the Plumber can go straight from obscurity straight into oblivion....

So can Sarah Palin.

As Letterman asked tonight, would you want to be a moose in Alaska for the next few weeks?
