The sad part is I realized I was reading the comedy section only after I was already well into the second paragraph:

"We, as Canadians, would like to keep our country great," explained Leitch in a really weird video, "and this means we must make sure all immigrants are just like us Canadians, by which I mean they love apple pie, baseball, and xenophobia."

You can move from one end of a city to another to do that in your home country.

Okay, some might move somewhere for missionary reasons, but even then they'll consider where there is a demand for their knowledge and skills.

Depends on where the demand for your skills is, where your family is too. You might also move for the weather too.

Some will move as refugees from religious or other oppression too. But in all cases, few would move to adopt some abstract identity.

It would be an added bonus.

When I worked in China, though I loved the Chinese people, made good Chinese friends, etc., I didn't go there to celebrate some nebulous Chinese identity. In fact, superficialities aside, I found no more difference between my Chinese friends and me than I did between my Canadian friends.

No. I mingled with my friends and neighbours.

If there was any significant divide between my frirnds and me, it was in the purely legal and administrative sense. They enjoyed Chinese and I Canadian legal nationality.

Sure some Chinese could get lost in the elusive myth if nationalism just as some Canadians do, but it never has a basis in reality.

This will cost the Canadian taxpayer dearly. Lawyers will eat up money. Judges will have to deal with a bunch of tribunals that will gum up the system. Many will be tossed back to their country of origin. It's happening in Europe, as we speak. A couple of countries there are ridding themselves of this problem finally.

Closed borders between countries is as logical as if we had closed borders between provinces.
Nationalist empty rhetoric aside, it's the same logic.
