The biggest source of these weapons, is by far, the U.S. border. Perhaps, we should have greater restrictions coming and going over that border, considering the threat to our society that widespread gun smuggling represents. Register every American who crosses.

There are already laws about criminals or anyone else for that matter packing illegal guns across the boarder. They just are not enforced. The police have found it safer to harass lawabiding citizens than confront criminals.

Do you think that the response from the last poster was sane?

Scookie was. Yours isn't

Yours is the typical jerkoff response from a moron that doesn't like something so thinks it should be banned from the public.

Handguns aren't just another "thing" to be banned, like transfats or pkastic shopping bags. They are a major threat to the health and freedom of all of us. It's up there with terrorism and far more dangerous to the average American than any terrorist ever will be.

This is really a weird topic in Canada with conflicting information.

Wikipedia say's CCW is illegal in Canada but permitted under
'rare circumstances.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry

This news story ( Applications to carry handguns skyrocket in B.C., Alberta | Globalnews.ca ) goes into more detail and sites the names of some
politicians who have been granted CCW (Concealed Carry).

The Thread seems to have been sidetracked, but the thread title
is about 'Legal Concealed Carry Permits in Canada.' We already
have it, but it's very rare, and the RCMP's Access to Information
Act sidesteps inquiries into statistics regarding Concealed Carry
Permits in Canada. Assumabley it is very rare, but nobody is going
to tell you one way or the other if it actually is or not.

Guns for the purpose they are intended are fine

Hand guns have only one fundamental design criterion. They are designed to kill human beings at close range. There is no other intended purpose for them.
Well, not quite.
Large caliber handguns are perfect when in bear country. It's actually quicker to draw a handgun and train it on a charging bear than it is to unsling your rifle from your shoulder, raise it up to get a bead and then shoot. When some bear is rumbling towards you at 20+mph, seconds really do count.

Anyway, the ubiquitous handgun that the Americans fill up their lives with have no business being in the hands of anyone but security professionals, police and the military. There is no other legitimate use for them.

Well, not quite.

The man must not have a lot of experience in the bush.....years ago while prospecting, and having my rifle fall off my shoulder continuously when bending over to pick up rocks and chip at them, I had to put my rifle down for about 15 minutes to be able to work effectively and it took me hours to find it again because it had fallen in a shallow crevice, so I got me a concealed carry (called protected carry in Canada) same thing ...different wording...
I never "misplaced" my 44magnum in all the years I carried it...

Strange how when this sort of thing happens in the gun-crazed USA no one seems to have a firearm either. It appears that having a gun for personal protection is really no help at all when shooters are targeting areas of vulnerability. The last thing I want to see is some idiot like Boomer toting a gun in public. When that happens I'll really know that the terrorists have won, because they will be us.
