Sitting here at the office and the world just shook for about 10 seconds.

Cool!
Everyone in the Parliament buildings all farted ... er I mean said something at the same time?

Magnitude 5.0 at a depth of 18,000 meters, according to my iPhone Earthquake app....

Latitude: 45.8622, Longitude: -75.4572 which puts it northeast of Ottawa.
Light damage?

For sure. My daughter in law was at home freaking out in Ottawa. She called my son at work and he laughed it off. But she was clearly shaken...:)
We felt one in Kelowna a long time ago too. I had my breakfast bit going on with the stove and felt the floor wobble a bit. Les had his face in the washbasin in the bathroom and said he felt a little disoriented till he looked up and saw the light swaying back and forth. lol It cracked the drywall over the kitchen doorway.

Turns out it was 5.5.

Quebec Ontario boarder was the epicenter.
Well, as I understand it, then it didn't shake for 10 seconds. A 5.5 shaking for that long would have caused some damage. Might feel like that while it's happening but I've felt a 5.8 and watched as my whole ceilings rippled but it was not that long. The reports I've read say the concern is with the size but the duration is more important.

I used to experience earthquakes of various strengths many times, most of them did not exceed 5.5 on the Richter scale. But once I was in an earthquake of a magnitude of 6.5 that happened at 3:00 AM. There were about 20 earthshocks that early morning. Not very funny at all. Every single day we had multiple series of quakes of lesser strength. It took an entire month for this seismic activity to slow down and eventually stop.

Everyone was asleep when it happened. Our beds were shaking in all possible directions, the heavy crystal ceiling lamp was swinging like mad and hitting the ceiling, the artworks were dropping from the walls, doors were opening and closing, and kitchenware was jumping up and down, some ended up on the floor and broke.

My sister was visiting us that time, and she never ever experienced even a little tiny earthquake before, and that was her last night before she headed home. Just imagine - this happened in the middle of her sleep, everything was shaking, falling, opening on it's own, closing, opening again... First thing that came to her mind was... poltergeist! She seriously thought so, she actually went into full blown panic, screaming and running around. Normally we'd had to leave the house asap, but instead we were trying to catch her and calm her down. She remembers her worst nightmare ever to this very day, very clearly.

Exactly where I live. I was in the gym at my daughter's school for her grade six 'grad'. At first i thought it was a big truck beause there is road work going on nearby, then I saw the floor in the gym ripple. Then all hell broke lose, parents running out without their children! People screaming - my mother thought it was someone dropping bombs.

Up in Midland, not only did they feel an earthquake at lunch, but at dinner, a tornado ripped through half of the town, destroying some industrial complex.
