I dont know if the judge has really become less conservative or if the Republicans have just moved further to the right. They've heading in that direction for decades.

The so called mainstream Republican Party has been moved even further to the right
with the advent of the Tea Party. Less conservative, yes that can happen people get
older and they lose their edge and become more human realizing that everyone is
not perfect all the time, like in the old TV show father knows best.

At the moment I have a lot of respect for Posner. He managed to inject some sanity into the quagmire of US patent litigation. Let's hope it catches on.

Judge Posner is one of the leading jurists in America; and, regardless of political leanings, should be on the shortlist for nomination to the United States Supreme Court.

Fact is most of these people are still conservative in the traditional sense. Just the republican party has moved so far away from mainstream society they will soon be coming round the other side and look like far left.
I think we have to change the terms we use for left and right. There are raving loons on both extremes but the center covers a rather broad band of opinions that can cooperate quite well with out the constant background noise from the nutters.

Indeed there are far more than two or three views which the left/right divide tends to limit us to. The extremists on both sides wind up making everyone look bad. Plus there are the libertarians who seem to have views on both sides. The whole left/right system needs to go.

My wife talks about this, with a great deal of exasperation: the Republicans are making her into a Democrat despite herself. That's not saying much for the Democrats, other than they aren't as batsh*t crazy as the GOP.

GOP's main goal seems to be to ensure the money stays where it is, except, they would like more.

The real difference between liberals and conservatives is that liberals are those that are too liberal for their own good; while conservatives are those that are only liberal for their own good. Either way you want to look at it, neither come out looking very good.
