Can't be any worse than the orange dude with the dead cat on his head that has a tantrum every few minutes.
Compared to Trump's mental acuity I'm not 100% sure who comes out worse. But I'm leaning towards Trump:

So, Americans are again stuck between a rock and a hard place, one has iffy acuity and the other is immensely ignorant and has learning problems.
That is not really startling. Intelligent people (on average) tend to avoid getting into politics. Just the harassment from the media and the electorate is enough to make people think twice about getting into politics.
I think politicians on average are slightly more intelligent, but they also have an idea that they know what is best for others and have an authoritarian streak. People such as Brian May (guitarist from Queen), Alby Einstein, Alexander the Great, etc smarts take different paths.
They come in all different shapes and sizes! While some are obnoxious and self serving (we know one in Ottawa) I think some are basically sincere and try to fulfill the desires of the electorate. They pretty much all lie when they feel they have to. I'm sure some feel intimidated by the leader of the party.
